Why does Plex keep dropping remote access?

My Plex media server running on a headless Ubuntu 16 box will “randomly” stop allowing remote access (I’m putting “randomly” in quotes because I’m sure it’s not random - I’m just not sure exactly when/why it’s happening).

Yes, I’ve read all the bits about double NAT. Yes, I’ve opened up the ports on my router.

Sometimes I am able to get remote access to work, and then sometimes I can’t. What am I overlooking? How can I diagnose the issue? Is there something in the logs that I can check? If so, what?

I have the same issue daily with my Window 7 machine. I have to keep going in and disable remote access and then allow remote access to fix this daily. why does it keep doing this?

Well, I’ve determined that it is indeed my router that eventually needs a restart in order to keep the Remote Access magic happening. For whom it may help: it’s the Netgear Nighthawk R7000. Still trying to figure out if the latest firmware will help or not (V1.0.9.6_1.2.19).

Just wondering if anyone has found a solution to this issue of remote access dropping daily? I have had this issue for months now and have not been able to figure it out. If anyone has an answer or fix please let me know. Thanks

i’m noticing the same issue. I’m using my ISP’s modem/router (no personal router) and I’ve used plex fro years with no issues. The past few months I cannot get plex to stay remote accessible for long. and today I cant get it at all. When I test it, it goes green then flashes quickly to red as not accessible

if I check from the internet side I can see the port is open, so it appears the issue is with plex itself
Success: I can see your service on 174.114.181.13 on port (32400)
Your ISP is not blocking port 32400
