Remote Access

Remote access keeps dropping. I have read discussions on here with no solution. I have been using plex for 2 years and am now experiencing this issue. Please assist.

I am having this same problem. Once I enable it then resorts back to “Not available outside your network”

There’s something going on…

The application part of plex.tv went down, as shown by the graph in above page. Trying to get more information as we speak (though it is night time in USA so). Hopefully a note will be released in said page stating what happened.

Any word on this isuue

I’m confident it well get restored soon. It should just be a temporary outage of a part of the system.

Is there a genral issuse with the Remote access, even if i put my own port forward it wont work. any help would be great/

There’s an issue with this in my Plex setup since installing the May 26th upgrade. At random, the settings page will state that I don’t have remote access setup outside of my network. I have to sign out of my Plex Pass account from the Plex web page and sign back in to get it to work again every time. Prior to installing the latest update, this was never an issue. I have the port opened correctly in my Edgerouter, haven’t changed a thing in over a year. The only thing different is the latest upgrade.

This is lame … remote access was working great for the past 3 months (new house and routers) and now it doesn’t work … whats going on PLEX?

Ive restarted my modem, my routers(velop 3 nodes), I’ve restarted the server, I’ve restarted my computer … nothing

I’ve gone to network and disabled server support for IPv6 and turned it back on. No idea how to do manual port … thoughts?

My remote access as quit working as well. Worked fine until I installed a Plex upgrade. I have a paid Plex Pass and feel the program should work as advertised. There should be a direct line to tech support for paying customers. So frustrating. I just want the remote access to work!

Did you have a port forward in the router for a manually specified port or automatic port configuration using uPnP?

What happens when you disable and then re-enable remote access ?
Any difference after rebooting?

Suggest the following for more reliable remote access:

  • Ensure local IP Address of the server computer is fixed - as DHCP Reservation or static
  • Have a port forward in the router to port forward a public port to local tcp port 32400 for this server computer IP Address
  • Tick the Manually Specify Port box on the Plex Media Server Settings / Remote Access / Show Advanced and enter in the box the public port you forwarded to 32400
  • Click on Apply. May need to click retry - but do leave 30 seconds between clicks for any of the remote access server settings

If you continue to have problems, please try after a restart of the server and provide screenshots and server logs

I’ve always done it this way and have never had issues. I’m sure many others have never done this and have also not had issues, so take it with a grain of salt, but doing this is the most reliable way to clear a path to WAN for your plex server.

I had the same problem a mate set my router up to see my MAC Address of the computer/server and gave its own IP address , fixed the problem and I searched the net for ages as it had me bet , try that .

Same issues as everyone else. Ive done complete system wipes and rebuilt it from the ground up and still loose remote access after a few minutes. I set my router’s firewall to off, left my computers firewall off, still lose remote access after a few minutes. This has been happening for the past several months, around March/April update. It something in the code and it making me look to other Media Server apps if it doesn’t get fixed soon.

I would advise to switch to having a port forward in the router and tick manually specify port and enter the port you forward to 32400

See my earlier post above http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1487401/#Comment_1487401

Things to check first and eliminate

Jumbo Frames - off and MTU Size at or below 1500 (there is a detailed test here to establish what it should be set to http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1393261/#Comment_1393261)

Only one local IP active on the server
check for double nat. check that your router wan/internet ip address is the what Plex Media Server is seeing
After eliminating the above and making any changes, shut down Plex Media Server

and re launch it
Wait 5 minutes

Ensure manually specify port is set and 32400 in the box
Then disable remote access

wait for it to finish thinking and then wait 1 minute
Enable Remote Access
wait for it to finish thinking and then wait 1 minute

Refresh the browser with F5
If status is wrong, click Retry once
Wait 1 minute
Refresh the browser

Also please note, the servers that test this port are Amazon cloud (in Ireland I think?), and start with 54.x.x.x or 50.x.x.x (or maybe even 52.x.x.x). Anyways, make sure you aren’t blocking any IPs like that in your firewall.
