Why does Plex Media Server keep old data?

I’m using the latest public version on Windows, and I’m having a problem with subtitles sporadically not being shown.

Say that I change the subtitles for a show to a different type. To make sure that the files are updated, I remove the files from the TV show folder and do a “update libraries”. I then wait for it to finish, move the files back and now do a new “update libraries”. Plex now scans and tells the scanner to look for files that aren’t there.

Jul 20, 2019 13:52:23.376 [1144] DEBUG - Adding file for scanner: “e:\TV-series\Stranger things\Season 01\Stranger things - s01e01.da.srt”

Except…there is no .SRT file there. And sporadically, starting an episode, I get no subtitles shown.

Also, it doesn’t do any difference if I:

  • clean trashcan
  • optimize database
  • clean trashcan once again…

Those .SRT files just stick…

Try ‘Analyze’
and/or
‘Refresh Metadata’
after switching out any files.

The same :-/

The right subtitle type shows in the plex web app page + the app…but log the log mentions the .srt files + every now and then, subs are missing when starting an episode. Viewing the same episode later + several restarts some times make the subs show.
