Subtitles shown as "None" if i dont refresh metadata

Hi guys,
Im facing a problem with Plex… All the time that i want to watch a movie i need to manually “Refresh all metadata”, otherwise subtitles are shown as “none”.

As you can see this is very frustrated thing because I want to whatch in my tv, and i need to come to computer to do this.

Any ideas how can I fix this? Subtitles (.srt) are with the same name of the movie in the same path…

Any help will be very apreciated.
Thanks a lot!

What client platform (Web, FireTV, AppleTV, etc) and Plex app version?

Also, provide movie & subtitle file name & organization (directory structure).

Make sure you’re using Plex’s recommended naming & organization. Plex can get picky about such things.

Example:

/Movies
   /Batman Begins (2005)
      Batman Begins (2005).mp4
      Batman Begins (2005).eng.srt
      poster.jpg

If you rename movie & subtitle file, you’ll need to do the Plex Dance.

Hi!
Thanks for your answer.

This problem occurs in any platform, even in Plex Media Server… Subtitles show as “none”, then i click in “refresh metadata” and it pushs all srt files :\

And yes, that’s exactly my organization…

Any idea? Thanks

Is your media storage on an external or networked location and not inside the plex server device?
If so, DISABLE ‘Empty trash automatically after every scan’
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289526-library/

Re-evaluate the future behaviour after a few days if you toggle the butler tasks
‘Refresh local metadata every three days’
and
‘Perform extensive media analysis during maintenance’
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201553286-scheduled-tasks/
Keep your media storage and your plex server running during the server maintenance time window.

No, my media is all stored in the plex server device.

I’ll attach here an example:

As you can see, everything seems fine but subtitles appears as “none”. If i click in “refresh metadata” then it loads correctly the subtitles…

Try toggling these butler tasks anyway.

Have you installed SubZero or similar plugins?

Yes, i have that plugin installed, why?

Also, try renaming things to the Plex recommendations (ex: Between Worlds (2018).mp4) and perform the Plex Dance to refresh info in Plex’s database.

I’m running PMS 1.14.1.5488 on my Windows PC & Synology NAS. No problems with external subtitles. An example from my movie library:

Screenshot%20(131)

Because refreshing could trigger a subtitle download by SubZero, instead of showing you your locally stored subtitle files.
Also SubZero has some very advanced options which if set incorrectly could mess with the expected default behaviour of Plex and external subtitles.

Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, does the line ‘Local Media Assets’ have a checkmark in front of it?
If not, click on it to activate it again.

Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
