I have a Shield Pro 2017 (plugged into a 1080p tv) and a Apple TV 4k (plugged into a 4k tv), I’ve noticed neither player can support TrueHD surround sound.
The issue is that weirdly on the Apple TV it will simply transcode only the audio and the video will play fine but if I play the video on the Shield TV, the audio AND the video gets transcoded. As I am only running PMS on my Synology NAS, PMS starts to choke under the load of the 4k stream and makes the video unwatchable due to the lag.
My question is why does it force the Shield to transcode the video as well? Have all the necessary remote streaming settings on to max and any 4k streams where the audio is supported also work fine without any trancoding.
