My Plex Media Server keeps deleting my American Experience documentary files (and some others) on its own on a daily basis. This means I have to go to the Trash can and retrieve the files and return them to their folders. This has begun happening since I installed and started using the HDHomeRun DVR. I’m sure it has something to do with adding new American Experience recorded files to my “Series” folder on the server. (I have tried creating a separate folder for recorded video, hoping this would stop the deletions, but to no avail.) Also, in my recording setting, it is set to NEVER delete videos and to keep ALL videos, as well. I’m hoping this is a bug that Plex is aware of, but it sure is frustrating. I would prefer to not have to check the Trash every day to see what might be deleted next. Anyone have any suggestions? (Wouldn’t it be nice if Plex had a support department?)
Edit the affected shows (at their ‘top’ level)
verify the episode retention settings again.
I am not talking about editing the recording schedule, but the actual tv show within your tv shows library.
The episode retention options appear on the ‘Advanced’ tab.
Thank you so much for pointing out that well-hidden advanced setting! It was set at “3 episodes” and I changed it to “All episodes.” I will follow up and let everyone know if this does the trick. I’m sure it will. I think it was set at 3 episodes because that’s how I set it up when I originally set the DVR to record American Experience.
Also was having this error. Kind of weird as it was set to keep “5 episodes” but it actually was keeping 13 of them, but was deleting the same NEW adds every day at the time of the scheduled tasks running. I have set it to keep all episodes and will update you if it no longer deletes them. Thanks for the help!
