Why does Plex auto delete episodes after setting to do so is turned off?

Back in September I set up my plex dvr to record new episodes of a few tv shows. I picked the setting so the episode would delete one day after viewed. This worked fine. But fast forward and I’ve downloaded these episodes without commercials to keep for my personal collection. I added them to my Plex library and now Plex keeps sending them to the recycle bin everyday because they are marked as watched and thinks these are the old recorded episodes.

When I first noticed this was happening I cancelled the recording of these tv shows thinking it would help but it hasn’t. I’m not sure what to do as this is a level of annoying that is making me think of cancelling my plex pass. I should note that tv shows never recorded by the dvr do not have this problem and function as normal.

I am running the latest plex media server on a Windows 10 desktop with the HDHomeRun Connect dvr.

Any suggestions on how to fix this bug?

Search the forums. This problems seems to come up about once every two weeks.

Keep settings tie to the show, not to the recording settings. If you set any delete settings, they will tie to the show no matter where it exists in your Plex library.

There are two places to access the deletion settings that you’ll need to check. The first is in the recording settings as you probably found when you set them up.

The second is at the show level in your library where the added shows are being deleted. Hit the edit icon in the lower left of the show poster and select Advanced. You’ll need to change the retention settings there as well.

Remember going forward that any deletion settings for a particular show are global, and that both of these areas are tied together.

Thanks for the answers. I think it worked.
