Why doesn't Plex use the Album Title tag present in track files?

I recently added several remastered editions of music albums I already own. For example, I have “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John that was ripped from my CD at 16/44 resolution. I recently purchased the 40th anniversary edition (remastered at 24/96 resolution) via Qobuz. The “album title” tag on all tracks is “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (40th Anniversary Edition)” and it’s in a folder on my NAS titled “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (40th Anniversary Edition)”

I rescanned the library, and the new album shows up without the parenthetical “40th Anniversary,” along with the original album. I had to manually edit the Album Title from within Plex to add the parenthetical “40th Anniversary Edition”. The new album then is shown as “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (40th Anniversary Edition)” along with the original album without the parenthetical (as it should)

Why doesn’t Plex use the Album Title tag in the track files?

Do you have Manage Library > Edit > Advanced > ‘Prefer local metadata’ enabled? If not, Plex will override any embedded tags with the online metadata it matches the album against.

That’s a Bingo!

It was turned off; I enabled “prefer local metadata” and will see what happens with the next new rescan.

Update: it worked

Thanks!
