Blank titles in Plexamp, Plex Library has title, edit page does not

Server Version#:1.28.1.6151
Player Version#:4.4.0

Some tracks do not have a title when looked at via Plexamp, when I go into the web interface of the libray all the tracks have titles on the album page. When I go into edit, the title is missing. I have tried refresing the metadata but that does not work on all tracks.

Not being sure how much of an expert you are, some of these questions might seem trivial.

Would you screenshot your music library settings under Advanced please? It’s a long window and will take two images. Some of the settings are discussed in the Editing Libraries article.

Please screenshot your folder for that album.

Please zip up the mediainfo output for a track that shows correctly everywhere and also the mediainfo output for a track that doesn’t display correctly (both from that same album).

That way we can examine your scanner settings, naming, and media details.
Thanks!

Thanks for looking at this. Please let me know if I could provide any more information.

The library settings are good. From what you showed me, fix the naming, fix the tags, and plex dance the artist. It’s reasonable to dance an album instead of a whole artist, but I wouldn’t.

This is the official style:

Music\ArtistName\AlbumName\TrackNumber - TrackName.ext

Yours below has the wrong AlbumName

F:\PlexMusic\Corey Kent\Corey Kent - '21\01 - Gold.flac

The one below is missing the AlbumName, TrackNumber is missing, TrackName includes artist.

F:\PlexMusic\Hardy\HARDY - JACK.flac

Same situation as above.

F:\PlexMusic\Tate McRae\Tate McRae - uh oh.flac

So getting the naming right is half the battle, but it’s very common to use Musicbrainz Picard to fix your tags. It’s not necessary, but it will definitely help.

Good luck!

Thank You for the tips. My Lidarr settings are: The Album Title (2022) [24bit-44.1kHz]\03 - Track Title (1)

so Lidarr must have not had the info or maybe there was a bug at the time of adding that album. I will check the other albums having issue to see if they are following the Plex naming convention. It is really just a few albums having this issue out of my 2,667 albums.

The two without album name or track numbers are singles. Musicbrainz has info for the “Tate McRae - uh oh.flac” one but not the “HARDY - JACK.flac”, which might explain why that track’s listing is fine in Plex.

Thanks again for the tips.

When I wrote this track “HARDY - JACK.flac” was under Various Artist but had the correct title and cover art. When I corrected the artist name in the web interface, it defaulted to standard picture of the artist. It was not corrected when I moved it to its own folder following the naming standard Plex naming convention. It was able to read the cover art from the file, but then for what ever reason decided to stop doing that. The edit page for the album should let you read the image(and tag) data right off the file.

Thanks again for the help.

It sounds like you have this pretty much figured out, but for some reason I typed a wall of text.

When you have an album with a main artist and a few tracks where the main artist is joined by other artists, like on the Beyoncé album, we don’t want that as Various Artists, and when tagged correctly it looks like this

So I’d hope you could manage something like the above for the Hardy track.
If you prefer it as Various Artists, though, it goes in

F:\PlexMusic\Various Artists\AlbumName\...

I use Various Artists for movie soundtracks and for live festivals that might have two or three artists on the recording doing seperate sets. I don’t like using Various for the London Philharmonic preforming various composers popular music, but it happens.

You have a very tricky issue with a Various Artist single, and so technically no album.
On top of that, Picard doesn’t even know of the single

Anytime you move a file or change its name, you have to plex dance the album.
If you skipped that, it would explain the inconsistent cover.jpg behavior. There are a couple of other factors in cover art, whether it’s embedded into each track and whether you have Prefer Local Metadata enabled, and of course your tags matching where you placed it.
