from what i can tell the latest pmp version for windows is:
2.30.1.966

which i installed, yet when i look at the version in settings it shows:
am i missing something? wouldn’t it better if the player version info shown in the above photo matched the version shown on the file you downloaded and installed?
Plex Media Player has two modes: TV and Browser; I believe the 3.83.2 version is the Browser/Web Client mode; you can compare by going here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop and clicking on General under Web Client on the left hand side.
because i’m not a fan of pmp tv mode and never use it, i tend to forget that the mode contains very useful settings not available in the optional mode, and useful info such as the player version number (as you correctly pointed out), wish that all this stuff, the settings and other info, was also available/shown when in the other mode, alas… anyway, thanks!
