Why is my Plex Media Server directory so large?

Server Version#: 1.23.3.4707
Player Version#: 4.60.1

Please help me, I have problem with really HUGE PMS directory.
I am using Plex on Ubuntu.
I have turned off video preview thumbnails generation and deleted it manually in each library
according to this article

Really, my PMS folder has 1 655 551 files! And Cache subfolder only has 39 143

library

The amount of files will depend on various factors – e.g. the amount of items in your library.
The support article linked in your OP lists most of them and what they’re used for. To be fair, having a 35 GB server data directory isn’t that shocking

If I may augment here?

I just completed assisting a user with a large Plex directory; 500+ GB.

He has a lot of indexed items, and tons of chapter index photos for the media in his library.

This is a large installation.

35GB metadata but 1.6 MILLION items? Really it isn’t that shocking?
I am running rsync backup of my system drive and this is going horribly slow with that amount of files…
For example, I have installed also Emby and with same libraries and metadata, only 4 504 items, totalling 6,0 GB
