Why is my server offline?

I downloaded the mains app for plex on my computer. It works all fine in there, but when I try to access the server on my roku TV, it doesn’t works! Through my phone I was able to see that the server is actually offline… when I open it through my computer it gets online again…

Is there no way for me to watch things on my TV while with the computer offline?

Plex consists of 2 main components/tiers (well… actually 3):

  1. Your Plex Media Server
  2. Your Plex client apps
  3. Plex’ online media sources

Those client apps (#2) can only access the content from your server while your server (#1) is running. Many users are therefore installing the Plex Media Server on a machine that’s always on (e.g. a NAS or dedicated server device).
The online media sources will still be available (e.g. Plex’ video on demand, News, Podcasts, Web Shows…) – given they’re not provided by your server but from Plex’ own servers.
