Since this topic seems to be hidden from the devs, I thought I’d provide a link here: Battery drain and heat - iOS
If they can’t reproduce the issue at least say so in order that we can provide what they need from us in order to diagnose.
I suspect however that they don’t use actual devices but rather rely on VMs to test thus can’t see the issue in this case as it’s hardware related.
Plenty of people have sent logs in (which seem to get tossed into the void as one of the last posters in that thread commented).
And if what you suspect is right - that’s inexcusable. My (small) company does iOS development and we know not having physical devices to test on is simply not feasible..
Just popping in to say I’ve been watching that thread and waiting for a long time now and still nothing. I just don’t use the app anymore and instead use the browser player which sucks. I’ve completely lost faith in Plex.
I mean look how far that thread goes back. A while ago devs were in there talking, taking logs and then nothing but silence without any explanation.
It’s a pain but did you try the “Lower Power Mode” workaround?
It’s most likely because they all got the can in the recent layoffs. Plex as we knew it is gone. All we can hope for now is Emby and/or Jellyfin to pick up the torch.
oh for sure we are in the age of enshitification with Plex… see for confirmation, especially with the seperation of Elan:
enshitification
I refuse to touch the app. If developers start responding I’m ready to use it again to provide logs but until then I just feel like I’m torching my device for no reason.
Just popping in here to bump the thread a bit.
I honestly thought through the efforts of just a few Plex team members to engage a little more, that we were on a good path later last year. It is a shame that this positive trend appears to have reversed with some further folks leaving the business.
I am heartened about the significant effort in the latest iOS Beta (5 new features, 25 fixes), that gives me hope that whilst we may not see the engagement we need here, we are seeing material improvements to the product on mobile.
I know that doesn’t help with the specific issue listed here, that I also have experienced. I’m honestly not sure if it is still an issue for me as I’ve chosen to continue using Infuse and Channels as my clients until a few more bugs are squashed and features released. It is getting close, with download management & live tv stability/features been the last few items to unlock a return for me.
PS - Just wondering is it worth anyone who has the time and knowledge to do some Xcode Organizer/Instruments analysis and share. Are we seeing CPU/RAM starvation, high energy use with a specific sub process, threading issues blocking main thread performance etc etc. I’m no expect at this, don’t know if it would help, however have done a little bit in the past a very long time ago and it helped to understand the issue.
