Why is Plex playing to my LG TV (I don't want it to)?

Hi,

I am running Plex on my Synology diskstation (DS218+). Plex fully patched to latest release.

I have a Plex pass and have setup Plex home. I have switched OFF the DLNA server.

However, when I go to my 2012 vintage LG TV (no Plex app) I can choose my Plex server as an input source. Plex is advertising itself on my network to the TV?

Strangely, if my TV is connected to the wired network, trying to browse my Plex server returns no files. If I connect my TV to WiFi, I cam browse all libraries.

I can only assume some sort of DLNA broadcast is still on? To be clear, I want it OFF. I do not want to be able to see my stuff through non-app devices.

Any ideas?

Thanks

WebClient:

Settings/DNLA

You can disable it there, and will have to restart the server afterwards, but…

Since you already said you did so, did you restart PMS afterwards?

And if so, then check this page, since might not be Plex:

Hi Dane22,

Thanks. DLNA definitely off. Server has been rebooted too.

It’s definitely Plex doing it, as the media are being presented in the layout of the Plex libraries, not the folders on the disc.

(Either that, or something else is reading Plex’s database.)

@dane22 - I can confirm it’s definitely Plex that is broadcasting my content to my unauthorised TV.

I know this because I have set up a Plex server on my laptop, and switched off DLNA (and restarted). I have even gone through my Plex account and deauthorised all devices.

The laptop Plex server and my Synology Plex server appear merrily in my LG TV input list. I can select either and see all of my photos, music, videos.

This despite DLNA being off and despite the device not having being authorised to my Plex account.

What did I miss, or is this a potentially serious security issue?

How does the Library/Preferences.xml looks like?

Does it have an entry like: DlnaEnabled="0"

Doesn’t have the Synology OS a DLNA server of its own?

@dane22 - Thanks. I don’t have Library/Preferences.xml but I do have Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml.

This has an entry of DlnaEnabled=“0”

Not mine as I haven’t installed it. There is no running DLNA service on my Synology diskstation.

Even if it did, that wouldn’t explain why I can see the libraries from the Plex Server I have running on my laptop.

Please restart PMS, and after that, upload a zip with the logs
