Why is Plex Transcoding DTS Audio for Xbox One S/X?

Server Version#: 1.19.4.2935 on Ubuntu Linux
Player Version#: Xbox One S (Current Version)

I noticed the other day that Plex is transcoding DTS Audio for my Xbox One S - why is it doing this?

Xbox One S clearly supports DTS as it even has an option to convert all Audio to DTS or DD+ for output instead of PCM and it’ll also BitStream DTS-HD MA from Bluray Discs.

How can I prevent DTS audio from being transcoded?

the short answer is, xbox does not support any pass through.

even though xbox ‘supports’ dts and truehd, you cannot direct play or pass them through to a tv/receiver.

only the built in disc player can do pass through, because it is a system app and has direct access to system api’s and hardware.

I wasnt talking about audio Pass Through, I know it converts all audio, except during BD playback, to PCM, DD+ or DTS depending on your config.

What I was asking is why my Plex Server is transcoding DTS when the Xbox One S already supports on-board DTS audio stream decode AND encode just like it does for DD.

it dts is only supported via the internal br and for games which choose to support dts.

I have an x1x, it just isn’t a very flexible plex client.
