I love being able to use Plex on Fire TV and my PS4 but I cannot stand Plex’s RIDICULOUS assignment of shows and movies
Often I find all of my new episodes being categorized either as “video mods” or as the wrong show entirely! And I have no recourse to correct it or not that I can tell, so I have to just go into it hoping I’ve selected the right show and backtracking, this is so damn frustrating.
Why can’t you just list by file name? Why can’t I just go into the Plex Media Manager and rename the show to what I want? Why the hell do my shows get recognized as a totally incorrect show that I’ve never watched or downloaded before? Someone please help with a solution
right now all of my shows are showing up as episodes of Catastrophe, why? I’ve never seen that show and it’s never been on my computer
this is seriously frustrating

Sounds like you're not following the naming convention.
But if you don't want to follow the naming conventions or organize your media so that Plex can actually match it. You can also place your media inside of a Home Videos library where automatic matching is disabled and it simply displays what you have.
I’m not even naming the files, but what are the naming conventions?
but more importantly, what is Home Videos Library? because I’d rather just do that
For Media Preparation:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/categories/200028098-Media-Preparation
For a Home Video Library it is when you create the library you selected 1 of 5 types: Movies, TV Shows, Home Video, Photos, and Music. Just select Home Video instead of whatever you picked.
how do I change that? can’t seem to find the options in the media manager
This is the support article for creating a new library:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200288926-Creating-Libraries
You can't switch library types so you have to create a new one.
thank you, this solves all my problems on this issue, you’re a saint
