Why new videos not registering in a library?

I have many libraries, most of which work perfectly well. But one library of ~260 videos simply will not regognize about 8 videos. Several of these are new, but others have been successfully registered and arrayed in my library before, but for reasons unknown, now don’t show up.

All of these videos are MP4, 1080 resolution. And all of them do work. It would seem that the file that records which videos are included in the library might be the problem. I unloaded them, then did a scan, then renamed them , then attrmpted to reload them into the library, then did the scan, but to no avail.

Any suggestions on how I might fix this problem?

PMS version (1.32, 1.40, etc) and platform (Windows, Linux, etc).

Follow Plex naming and organization requirements: Your Media.

Please show how you have the files named and organized. Include the folder added to the library.

I use a file naming protocol like this: Beethoven S5 ~ Dudamel. I have used this protocol for perhaps as many as 500 videos over the past 6 years, so the file naming protocol is not at fault.

My folder structure is one that I have used for six years. It is one master/parent folder with many subfolders. I doubt that it is a problem.

I think there must be a PLEX file somewhere that lists the video files included in the specific library. If so, might it be ci=orrupted? If corrupted, is it possible to refresh it? How?

I am wondering whether I might create a second master folder and add that new master folder (along side the original) to the library contents.

The file naming and organization absolutely does matter. It can also result in Plex not cataloging certain files (or considering them as duplicates).

Can you share an example of the actual file path as well as the path of the directory that’s linked to your library?
Based on the naming snippet you’ve shared above I assume this is a tv-show library?

Please also list what version of PMS you’re currently running and on what platform (as asked by FordGuy).

PMS: 1.40.0.7998
Plex Web: 4.123.2

These are videos of orchestral concerts.

Folder structure:

E:/Plex Media/Orchestral Videos/Beethoven/Beethoven S3 - Simon Rattle/Beethoven S3 - Simon Rattle.mp4

I wonder . . . If I were to create a second “Orchestral Videos” subfolder, perhaps entitled “Symphonic Videos”, then add the offending video files there, then add that new subfolder to the library, would that work?

I tend to believe some PLEX system file which holds the list of video files in the “Orchestral Videos” folder might be corrupted.

Your thoughts?

Unlikely.
Your naming isn’t in line with what Plex expects, hence it’s not picking the files up as expected.
You might get lucky with some non-compliant naming / file organization… until you aren’t any longer.

So, apparently I do not understand the video file naming protocol.

Could you please tell me what is wrong with the video file name:

Beethoven S3 - Simon Rattle

?

Thanks for your help.

It seems that if I change the video file name

from: Beethoven S5 - Simon Rattle

to: BeethovenS5Rattle

It all works.
