Why Plex stopped auto downloading subtitles?

I’ve seen a few threads bring this up and most responses just say that Plex stopped supporting the 3rd party sites that supplied the subtitles. But I’m curious why? It was an extremely useful feature and it doesn’t make sense why they would just abandon it.

Most python based plugin’s stopped working a long time ago

I mean the search feature in app is nice. But it used to just collect any missing subtitles for me. Oh well, thanks for the insight.

Do you mean the one that finds subtitles from OpenSubtitles? I just tried it on an episode of Jessica Jones (I don’t have subtitles for that somehow) and it found them although weirdly named.

It worked for me. Could it be gone in some players but not others? I tried this on the desktop player. Too late for me to check on my Xbox because that’s in another room and I don’t want to get out of bed.

I read about this a long when it happened and that’s when I had just found out about a plugin I would have needed to use for my random videos such as actor interviews, behind the scenes, deleted scenes, music videos and trailers. It was a while after this that I discovered extras so that specific need is gone and I have extras for all my favorite media.

I decided to bite the bullet a couple of years ago and installed Bazarr. The problem is you will need a complete “arr” setup for that, because Bazarr downloads subtitles for everything in Radarr (Movies) and Sonarr (TV). And you will need Jackett for the whole thing to work.

It is a lot of work but Bazarr is the real solution. It will download the best subtitles available based on scores and it will continuously scan for better versions of the subtitles. If it is something obscure and there are subtitles available but they are off sync, you can tell Bazarr to sync the subtitles with the audio.

@Havohej - I feel like I tried to do this at some point in the recent past myself but I’m not sure I ever got it fully working. All of the “arr” stuff threw me for a loop. I don’t really see the need for those add-ons as they don’t seem to add much (if any) value to the overall setup.

Any chance you have a step-by-step guide for getting this set up?

Thanks
