Why so many issues with Plex?

I’ve asked this question in parts before - and the only answer I ever get is send us the logs. There must be a common issue here since other people have these problems too.

Plex for Samsung works perfectly for me.
Infuse and VLC on the Apple TV work perfectly for me.

Plex on the Apple TV - half of my content simply won’t play. Why?
Also, if I try to play any content via Plex Channels they mostly fail, too.

Is this simply a case that my 2009 MacBook Pro (which has full RAM and a blazing fast SSD and is only used for run Plex now) does not have enough power?

But I don’t understand why Infuse and VLC work EVERY time. What is wrong with Plex (for Apple TV)?

There must be a common answer without having too lookup these logs (again).

There were some issues with channels not working properly. If you haven’t already, please try the new Plex Pass Preview, https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/219652/plex-media-server-transcoder-preview-0-9-17-0 There are some fixes to channels that this should help with.

I am not aware of any wide spread issue for the AppleTV app. The only way to understand the problem is with logs. Keep in mind that playback not working can be caused by different things so just because 1 person reports a problem, it might not be the same problem for you. That is why logs are important.

VLC may work better because it is a stand alone video player that doesn’t rely on the device’s firmware. The Plex app uses hardware decoding to provide smoother playback but only for codecs that the hardware supports. VLC uses software decoding which can playback more codecs, but relies on the device’s CPU to perform the work. Low bitrate videos should not be a problem but once you get into higher bitrates, the CPU may not be able to handle the load.
