Wich box media player for direct play?

Hi,
I’m looking for the best media player box for Plex.
I’ve my Plex server on a Windows server 2016 pc.
But I only play full HD mkv with dts HD or DD true HD.
I want.direct play capabilities, no transcoding.
For now, i use my Xbox One as media player but almost everything is transcoded.

I’m also looking for 2160p, and FLAC capabilities, Always in direct play.

The perfect box would have been the NVIDIA Shield but I need toslink.

Some advice?

If you only have TOSlink, then DTS HD or Atmos are of no use for you.

I know that, but I only have MKV with original video and audio quality.
DTS HD or TrueHD is for one of my rooms where I’ve HD amp.
But for other rooms, I don’t have HD amp, so I use the same file and it’s read in DTS or DD (they are included in the dtshd or true hd).

But now as I move to Plex, I don’t want any transcode and Xbox Plex or Chromecast transcode almost all the file and are not able to read the DTS in the DTS HD.

I need a media player able to read all the format, even if the dts HD is read as DTS.
For my main room I have HD sound and for other room, no, but I use the same files and the same server.

Your desire for 4K restricts the choices significantly at this time.

to be able to use any device less than a ‘full HTPC’ or an nVidia Shield, it needs either

  • further testing
  • software updates
  • doesn’t exist, yet.

… as far as I know.

If I remove 4K for my desire, 1080P DTS + DTSHD + DD + DD TrueHD without any problem, only as plex client ?
