I tried so damn hard not to have to be the new guy asking ignorant questions and despite my searching and trying, I just have to. I finally joined the cord cutting side of things and got Plex to be solely our DVR 90% of the time. HDHOMERUN tuner, but their DVR service was a waste of money and time. Very ugly and archaic interface.
So what I have is an HP Elite SFF Windows 10 desktop with an i7 4770 3.5ghz processor, 8gb RAM and SSD drive. From what I’ve read it has a benchmark score of 9795 and should be efficient enough for what I’m doing. But I get constant errors, buffering, or outright will not play when I or wife(!!!) goes to play back. This is on local AC or N clients with minimal if any other traffic. It appears to be transcoding issue, as I’ve even received a format error before. When trying it out at the main server machine (it’s only job btw) it works okay. Also, if important info, we have Spectrum cable internet with 100/15 service.
I have set PC power settings to always on and high performance to avoid going to sleep or decreased processor performance. What am I doing wrong?! She’s ready to throw in the towel and go back to cable!
Need more information. What are you trying to play, Live TV or DVR recordings? What client are you using? What Server Version?
To add on to @johnm_ColaSC post - What HDHR tuner are you using?
Trying to play back DVR’d shows (live is another headache but one at a time). I have the latest version of Plex for Windows version 1.9.2.4285-9f65b88ae my tuner is the HD HomeRun Connect. The clients are both iPads. One an Air and the other the latest 2017 version.
Thank you both already.
Oh, should also add that everything is hard wired using gigabit router and switch and within 3 feet of each other. Aside from the iPads obviously.
** I just tried the regular HDHR app on the same iPad to watch live streaming MPEG2 raw feed with no issues at all. My issues sure seem to be transcoding related.
I’m currently home for lunch and just clicked on a show to try and watch live with intent to record it for testing and looky here!
Any suggestions out there? I’m hoping it’s just a setting I have wrong as I am totally perplexed. (No pun intended)
Tonight while watching a recorded episode with lip sync issues up pops a notification with “a recording failed”. This is not looking good at all
