Will Plex for iPad work on Vision Pro?

To get ahead of it: I know that Plex has no plans on making a dedicated VR app for any platform. That’s not what I’m asking. I just want to know whether the existing iPadOS app will be made to function in the Vision Pro, as iPad apps can be easily ported over in a few clicks.

It seems like a no-brainer to do so, but I just read that Netflix has opted to allow viewing of their platform only through the browser, and I’m hoping that Plex isn’t taking the same stance.

Yes. Html source code for Plex in App Store shows xros compatible, which means they did not opt out. Will be the first app I install on Friday! Really hoping for a visionOS optimized app eventually though.

I’d just settle for an iPad / iOS app that didn’t crash 5-7 times a week for a year, but that is asking far too much of the Plex team sadly.

I am also hoping the iPadOS app will appear in the visionOS App Store. Please post if anyone finds out before my Apple Vision Pro arrives!

Can confirm that the iPad app works on the Vision Pro. I’ve watched some shows and have successfully downloaded some movies to the device.

One thing - you’ll see black bars above and below letterboxed content, much like you would if you were watching on an iPad.

I sincerely hope that this will be improved in a future release. You can’t watch streaming content on planes, so download support is critical and Plex is a great option.

We’re talking about Apple Vision Pro, not iPad. Certainly with another device with you on the plane, you can use AirDrop or the Developer Strap to transfer files to the Apple Vision Pro.

What needs improving is that the iPad app is entirely insufficient for Vision Pro users. It doesn’t support any form of 3D content, doesn’t support any form of immersive theater mode, etc.

I’ve started using Infuse, just because I know they’re actively developing a dedicated AVP app.
