The version they have now is old, and it does not work well. Stutters a lot and locks up. Having paid the $5 for the app I think it needs to be looked into . DO you think this will happen. Had to switch back to the roku just so I can use the plex.
The app is the regular Android app. Sometimes it takes a little longer to show up in the store, but it is the same one all Android devices get. I do not think they are giving up on Android so I am sure the app will continue to keep being updated. If there are specific bugs that have not already been reported, please report them.

Well I hate it for people that just have android because this is horrible. I got a new router thinking it was the problem but I was wrong. Will be returning the fire. I will stick to the roku. Thanks for the reply.
the amazon app currently is the same version as the other android devices.
the version you seem to be using is the old app for Android 2.x which stopped being supported in February of 2013 when they announced the new one, and it will not be updated. the current app requires at least android 3.2 which the original Kindle fire tablet does not have.

I have several android devices and the new Fire Stick and they all work great for me. I also have a couple of Roku's too that work great.

I have to new Amazon Fire TV Stick and it is horrible. I downloaded the app from the store on the device. Is their a newer one that isn't on the amazon store? If not I either have settings wrong on the device or I got one crappy fire stick.
I was playing around with a new Amazon Fire TV Stick last night, comparing it to my Roku's I've used for years now. The Plex app itself seems to work okay on it, as far as I can tell, for the short time that the device remains connected to my router. Unfortunately the Fire TV Stick itself has a terrible WiFi connectivity issue. Constantly dropping a strong connection, even when barely 3 feet from the router. Whereas every other wireless device I have connects anywhere in this house, and even outside of it for some distance too. Hopefully Amazon will release some kind of firmware update to fix the issue, but as is, this thing is just about useless in my testing so far. Thankfully I only paid $20 for it. Hehe...
the current version of the app in the google play store is 3.6.267

the current version of the app In the Amazon store is 3.6.3.269 The Amazon app is actually higher because of a small change only that store needed. but they are functionally the same

As far as your stuttering issue. do you know if the file is transcoding or not? what type of file ( the full media info XML for one file that does it would be good) . might need logs too but one thing at a time
My Fire stick was also giving me issues at first. For me it turned out to be my TV. The power supply is too close to the HDMI ports and was causing some sort of interference. I use the little HDMI extender that came with it and some double sided tape to stick it to the wall and interference was gone. Amazing what a difference a few inches makes (insert joke here :P). I have an old TV and they probably did not expect to have a device so close to the ports and did not consider interference issues.

Yea I am glad I pre ordered it and just paid $20 but still I had to pay $5 for the app lol

Oddly enough, so far tonight it's stayed connected while playing around with it. I had to recycle the power connection to it to get it to finally connect today, but since then it's been stable so far. The App has worked well too for what little I've used it. It's definitely fancier looking than my Roku's. I'm just concerned about the connection, as my old Roku HD is rock solid with its wifi connection. I'll play around with for another week or so and see how it goes. I think I may try to use that extender as well, and see if that helps if I have the connection issue pop up again. :)
