Will PMS ever allow Plex data on adopted storage? YES!!

Indeed it is easy, albeit a little expensive in the purchasing the SSD department. I did make it sound easy and, in truth, it wasn’t that easy because my first two attempts at cloning didn’t work, so then I tried using other methods (E.g. Linux VM using dd to place start and end binaries into place etc.) all of which failed to varying degrees, until, in desperation, I tried the cloning again, starting it before I went to bed late at night, and installing it into the Shield the following morning. It worked beautifully. I can only assume that when the Volans cloner dock indicates it finished cloning that maybe it’s not quite, so if you use one of these give it a minute or so after the lights stop flashing before you turn the dock off. In my brain-faded state late at night I managed to mark a couple of posts above as “Accepted Answer” and, though they are lovely posts, they do not specifically answer the original question. In order to reduce confusion I have been trying to turn off that status but have been unable to find a way to do that. Does anyone know if it is possible to remove that status? Thanks and Blueskies, Paul

Add me to the list of people eager for an official fix to this. I’m okay so far but now I’m going to have to start watching my library, something I should not have to do at this stage.

If it makes the Plex folks more motivated, I just got a lifetime plex pass today to essentially support the company. I thought that they were providing an excellent product. Now that I’ve found out about this shortcoming I think I have a little egg on my face. I’d have a tough time recommending a plex pass to a 16gb shield user right now.

Get it fixed, people. Please.

And I’m not going to root my Shield, either. I should not have to. Done doing that sort of thing.

There is now a BETA out which addresses this issue see here.

The crowd cheers wildly. Just signed up.

Unrooted. Restored to factory settings (just to start clean). Installed PMS beta. Chose install location as USB flash drive. Added media. Works great!

It actually worked!

If you have a standard PMS install (not rooted like mine with xda solution) it looks like it will just move your existing metadata on internal storage to the new location (e.g fast USB stick). Plex happiness factor restored for me.

The only thing I see is that when I go to the SD card on the shield under storage, after 2 hours, it still says calculating. I have a 128 gig card. The internal storage does reflect the metadata having been moved as its reporting 2.7 gig used.

@audiomixer — If you’re using an SD card instead of a USB stick then that might explain the 2+ hours or calculating.

Now going on four hours and still calculating. Before the metadata move to the DS card it only took a minute or two.

Did the move finish? If you had a large library, the move would have taken a while and if the calculation tried during that move, it might have failed and is now stuck. A reboot of the Shield may fix that.

I have been plagued by long calculation times (sometimes it’s fast, other times it takes forever) using only internal storage, so that may not necessarily be because of the move adopted storage.

Which external storage solutions do you guys recommend? I found this article for USB sticks, but I’m also wondering about performance vs price for external SSD’s as well. Thoughts?

Well I am happy for you all that Plex have finally come to the party supporting adopted storage. At the same time I am a little pissed that it didn’t happen sooner and save me the cost and effort of selling my 16GB Shield, purchasing the Shield Pro, and replacing the spinning disk with an SSD!

None-the-less my unit is working well, and others in the world can use adopted storage and there will be peace ushered into the maelstrom to calm the waters of noise, and all shall be good upon the earth… o:)

Yes, the move finished and it is working well. Just that when looking at adopted storage, after “calculating” for 6 hours with no answer, I gave up. Did the reboot and took 45 min to calculate.

Hey Paul - your thread led me and others to the workaround and may have influenced the solution so at least your pain and suffering led to some happiness.

If you can edit the title to answer YES! to your original question the thread might get more visibility. Been almost 5 days now and the beta fix is rock solid. Better than root for me.

For those of you who are unrooted, did you set your USB stick to adopted storage? If so, once you moved over PMS, does your setup download TV Show themes?

Yes on USB stick as adopted. Tv themes haven’t played for awhile now (they used to). Don’t recall this being related to the root or now the beta. I’ve read this has been broken/fixed in the past - probably in these forums. Currently no theme playing for me.
