Server Version#: newest until this new update
Player Version#: PLEX FOR WIN10
Will PMS Update Properly if I click the Update from a PC in my home that the Server is not on? I have been wondering this for quite some time. My Server is in my basement and it is much easier for me to update it from upstairs if possible??? When I log into My Plex Pass Account and I see the server needs an update notification symbol, if I click on that to update it from a PC that the server isn’t physically on, will it mess up my server or will it update properly on the Server in its correct location? Thanks much for any help
It is worth a try at least. In most cases it should work.
In all other cases, you could use Remote Desktop to access your server machine (at least from another machine in your home network).
This requires that your Plex server at least runs Windows Professional.
For other Windows editions or even other operating systems, there are solutions like TeamViewer or the myriads of VNC derivates.
Has always worked for me (last 3-4 updates at least), although it does warn you that there might be dialogs appearing which you obviously won’t see unless you RDP or go to the server itself.
Thanks to you both. I am going to try it and if it doesn’t seem to work, I will try OttoK’s suggestion as I have WIN10 Pro on all my PC’s now. Work PC, Server & 2 HTPC’s, just upgraded them from 7 a few months ago. Thanks guys
