Cannot update my Plex Server Software

I am having problems updating my Plex Server that is running on my HP 15 Win 10 Laptop.

My current version is 1.16.5.1488 and I am trying to upgrade to 1.18.2.2058.

When I start to run the update I get a message that says “The installer may display dialogs that require input. Make sure you have desktop access to the computer running Plex Media Server before continuing” but I do not know what this means.

If I just continue it runs but never updates.

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks!.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

This is a warning for people who are accessing their server from remote.

Try a “manual” update:

  • Stop/quit/end Plex Server with the tray icon
  • deinstall Plex Server with the regular ‘Apps’ control panel of Windows (do not use 3rd party ‘Uninstaller’ software like Revo etc. & do not use Registry cleaning software like CCleaner et al.)
  • for safety, reboot Windows
  • download the installation exe of the newer version and install it

(If you want to install an older version of PMS, take a look into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Updates)
