Finding myself a little bit frustrated at the moment. I am running Plex on my old laptop, circa 2010, and have been doing so for over a year with no problems.
Recently I have noticed when accessing Plex remotely I get a screen stating that the server needs to be updated.
When I go to settings it says that it is up to date, and on further inspection it is of course an old build but I feel it’s the last build that is usable on Vista?
Each time that screen appeared there was always a link below it to my server that I was able to click on and access my media with. Today however the same screen appears and where the link use to appear I find the name of my server with ‘Unavailable’ next to it.
I have checked to make sure the server is still allowing remote access, and it is. I have it set to connect to unsecure connections too, so I am at a loss on how to access my media remotely now through the web. It still seems to work fine on android and iOS apps.
Would be delighted with some advice, and am happy to provide any more detail necessary to help rectify the issue.
Unfortunately, PMS no longer supports Vista and to use the latest version of Plex Web hosted on plex.tv you need to run a newer version of PMS. So unfortunately, you will not be able to use Plex Web remotely this way.
However, if you know your public IP address and port, you can still connect to your PMS remotely and load the Plex Web that came with PMS, which will still be the older version and work.
Thank you for getting back to me, I appreciate it.
How can I best find the IP and port, I’m fairly confident I can get the IP but not sure about the port. Do I then put it in my browsers address bar?
Will there be any version available in the future that will support Vista for users like myself? Just seems a little bit unfair to suddenly lose the support. Or is there somewhere for me to request this?
Since even the extended support given by MS on that OS ends in just a few days (no more security patches) - I would assume that it will not be added back in again by Plex.
