Thinking of getting APV but will the new Apple TV app still play music libraries or will I be able to install and use Plexamp instead, bit confused by the info?
Many thanks.

Something they still have yet to answer…
Ah, thank you ![]()
I would like to know too. Hope they could a tvOS version Plexamp.
For me that would be ideal ![]()
As of today’s preview release, it does not include music libraries.
That’s what i want!
I went to the install instructions for testflight but when I click the link provided it keeps saying unable to open link - tried installing testflight but still the same - it keeps asking for a redemtion code?! How can I see the preview on my atv if I can’t get it to work on my ipad?
I’ve seen on the Plexamp (I think) subreddit that the music engine in Plex on AppleTV is the same as in Plexamp. That gives me hope for a Plexamp on tvOS.
Frankly speaking, music playback is the only reason I use Plex on my AppleTV so I can port it into my hifi system. I will be highly pissed if they take away access to my music library through AppleTV.
Playing our music on Apple TV is the main function for Plex in our household, would be terrible if it is removed.
Given how awful the rollout of the new mobile app is going, I would expect nothing less than for a tent pole feature of a personal media server to have no replacement at launch. The current beta does not have music libraries. I’d be fine if Plexamp were available on the Apple TV, as it is on mobile, but there has been no discussion about that being an option. We will probably be told to Airplay from another device. But even that function is a level deeper than Casting (maybe an Apple restriction, who knows).
Well, it looks like there won’t be a music player for Apple TV anytime soon if at all as Plex are staying silent on any news so I have installed the Emby server alongside the Plex server on a Windows machine together with the Emby ATV app and it works flawlessly (and imho looks a lot better than the Plex player interface to boot
- I just pointed the Emby server to the same NAS directories as Plex.
As Emby is only playing the source media locally there are no external network issues to worry about (for me anyway).
I already subscribe to Infuse for playing videos as that just works flawlessly as well…
Just a heads-up on Emby with Apple TV - it won’t auto-switch the Apple TV to HDR/Dolby Vision mode when playing HDR content. That switch needs to be done manually. It’s been a request for a long time now…
(Although if you’re using Infuse that’s not an issue)
Thanks for the info ![]()
How so? I was hoping turning the Apple TV from SD to HDR or DV would fix their DV playback issue. But my TV kept switching out of the menu HDR/DV to SDR for a DV 8.1 file and the familiar green tint was applied.
The way this app roll out has gone, and the obvious ensh*tification demanded by VC money, has me not wanting to spend time in Plex. And I don’t even necessarily object to VOD/FAST content. It’s very easy to see where the puck is going and I’m not comfortable with that.
