Will the new TVDB API/user subscription model affect Plex?

Sorry for the hashtag glut; I figure this probably applies to everything.
I got an email today from the TVDB informing me that they are changing the API to a licensed or user subscription model. The announcement specifically says, “if you are an end user, you’ll need to wait for the platform/software you use to announce any changes regarding your access.” But I’m impatient, and I have found the metadata from the TVDB more accurate than any of the other currently available options. Will the changes in TVDB API licensing affect the metadata options used by plex, or the price of a Plex Pass?

I love my Plex and I never want to give it up, but if I have to find or tweak another metadata source, I’m gonna be annoyed!

The email I got specifically says:

“A note for Plex users: TheTVDB is in ongoing active discussions with Plex. Please stay tuned for more information if you are an end user of Plex.”

My guess would be there will be a period where this is discussed between the two entities, but I doubt we’ll know anything until an agreement is reached (or not).

Very interested if anyone has any information that can be verified and disseminated.

I don’t have any specific information, nor is it something I’m directly involved with, but I’m sure an announcement will be made when there’s something to announce. Until then, please refrain from speculating.

Thank you, Marius. I read the missive three times and missed that part every time! :woman_facepalming:
