Win7MC -> Plex ?

Hiya…I’m new to Plex(just scratching the surface)…been using Win7MediaCenter plus XBox360-extender in diff-room using MyMoviesDK for many years with SiliconDust-Prime 3-tuner for expanded-cable(DRM?) viewing/DVR, and VOB DVD-content. Win7MC is limping along, but fearful that it’s headed for an early grave and looking for a better replacement.

I have recently purchased a 16TB(RAID-10) WD-EX4 that I use for storage-redundancy of locally attached DVD-content, and both rooms have Samsung SmartTV’s.

Tried diving into previous posts regarding ability for seamless integration of SiliconDust Prime tuner for viewing live and DVR-capabilities for both TV’s, but water’s only got muddier.

Don’t really do much with audio or picture sharing…just need live-TV(including prem-channels), DVR, and playback of existing VOB-content. Is there a viable path for me using the Plex solution without having to frankenstein too much or still be reliant on a PC/Win7 box ?

Welcome to Plex. I suggest you check out the FAQ and Support Articles link and read up on what Plex can do. That should answer a lot of your questions.

yeh…started there but seems that too many tangents & diverging opinions

I don’t think the FAQ has different opinions on how things work, since it’s written by the people who make the software. If you want to know what Plex can do, that’s the place to look. What hardware is required for DVR and Live TV - it’s in there. Can you use VOBs - it’s in there. How to set up libraries and how to properly name and structure your media - it’s in there.

couldn’t find what i was looking for in a timely manner
willing to pay for the product if there’s a better avenue such as a pre-sales engineer…any thoughts there ?

Plex does not support DRM content. If the channels from your provider are marked as such, Plex’s Live TV feature will not be able to play these.

thx for the insight, MFP…i really like the interface and ease of setup, but the DRM and VOB capability are a must-have, so will just try and be patient as the product matures to meet those needs

Plex isn’t new, it’s been around for a long time. VOB will never be supported as it’s not a streaming format. DRM will never be supported either, as it requires licenses and fees and certifications. All this and more is contained in the FAQ pages.
