I am having issues while running my Win10 pc and Plex Media Server. Everytime that I am streaming to my Samsung Smart TV, the Pc completely freezes up and I have to restart the computer in order to use it. I have tried with Windows Firewall on and with Windows Firewall off. Please help!!
^ This. I have the exact same problem. Windows 10. PC. Everything’s fine for days. The moment I open up 127.x for Plex (went into settings), my computer froze. Mind you, doesn’t always happen (freezing in settings). But I can tell you, Plex is always actively doing something when my PC freezes. This is definitely something with Plex triggering something.
suggest we start with some debug log files to see what is going on at the time of a freeze
See https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201643703-Reporting-issues-with-Plex-Media-Server

I am absolutely having the same issue. It usually happens when I’m streaming, but it will also happen if I just access the settings. I searched for all the known problematic dlls and came up with nothing. So I did a complete and full uninstall of Plex including deleting the registry entry and all the AppData files. I installed and it crashed my computer again during setup. On reset I was able to get through setup and it was scanning my library. I went in the other room for a while and tried to access it with my iPhone, and nothing was happening. Came back in the room and it had crashed and rebooted my computer again. Attached is a zip with all of the logs I pulled out of the AppData folder. Please help!
If your system is rebooting/crashing, please upload the crash log. Remember, if you restart the Plex server after a crash, the crash log is deleted - so disable any auto-start setup you have for Plex before triggering a crash and getting the log.

It might be some driver issues. Not sure exactly what times the crashes occurred. The logs show the following
At 18:21:30 Plex Media Server was launched but 2 seconds later it was exited - I presume you shut it down through exit on the Plex system tray icon?
At 18:30 Plex Media Server was launched and continued to run to 18:52:34
Did windows crash at this point ? You should look at the windows event log (System and Application) to see what happened on 24 May at around 18:52 and after that. The windows Event Logs are accessible through command eventvwr.msc
and then selecting Windows Logs
and System
and Application
At 18:52:10 the Plex Media Scanner process was about half way through creating chapters for
E:\BR Rips\Moonrise Kingdom\Moonrise_Kingdom_t01.mkv
with 13 chapter thumbnails created - logged as being 57.8% percent completed
The server process was adding new media items to the library and the log continued till 18:52:34
Then Plex Media Server was re-launched at 18:54:02 and at 19:11:06 some network connections dropped out and the server timed out the phone connection (on 192.168.0.3) after 3 minutes of no activity. The last logged entry being at 19:14:36 recording the timeout. So was this just losing network connections or did windows crash at this time as well ? Again the windows event log will show if there was a restart / crash of windows
On each launch there is indication of network issue with the network adapter where it is available but then goes away and comes back with a default IP Address and then gets the correct IP Address.

So I suggest looking at the event logs in windows - and also checking the network driver for updates
I checked the drivers this morning, no updates available. I’ve had it connected to both a wired connection and wifi and had the same issue.
I pulled the Windows log this morning but wasn’t able to upload it before work. I’ll do that this evening.
I did have time to make it crash again and took Plex off my startup apps, however, it didn’t produce anything in the crash logs folder.
Ok. Here are the logs from this morning, including the windows log, but not the crash log, because as I said, there was nothing there. Thanks!
can you tell me what the timestamp is for the first entry in the event log file you attached. Because of timezone differences event viewer automatically adjusts the time when I view it.
Also could you do same for Application Event Log and zip and attach and again tell me the timestamp of the first entry after you save the evtx file
I can see a blue screen windows crash bugcheck x101 in the event log
and please tell me what time was the last freeze for which you attached the logs
The first entry is 5/25/2016 6:35:29 AM.
Hopefully this is the log you were looking for. The time on the first entry in this log is 5/26/2016 5:10:50 AM.
Yeah, sometimes I get a BSOD, sometimes it just freezes and I have to manually restart.
I think the last crash was around 6:30-6:45 AM on 5/25.
i use to have the same issue the problem is not the plex server go into your settings and disable all notifications the ones that pop up on the side of your screen when you receive emails etc that should do the trick.

Well, that’s bizarre. I’ve disabled the notifications and I’m trying to see if I can crash it now. Will report back.

Sorry, this did not work. It crashed again. Here are new logs of the most recent crash. Once again, there was nothing in the crash logs folder, even though Plex did not start up when the computer reset. I did notice that the crash log folder showed a last updated time/date at about the time the computer crashed.
Just crashed again. Here are more logs. I forgot to mention earlier that when I get the BSOD it’s a CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT message.
So are these crashes BSOD’s ? Need to know what exceptions are in the windows application and system event log at the time. Does it refer to BugCheck ? BSODs are normally caused by drivers / overheating / bios issues and it would not be Plex Media Server. Help is normally sought through forums like
http://www.tenforums.com/ and http://www.sevenforums.com/

Sometimes they are BSODs, sometimes the computer just freezes and I have to restart manually. Either way, the crashes only happen when Plex is running. Other resource heavy apps like Kodi do not cause it to crash.

I suspect that Plex Media Server is exercising your PC in a different way from other applications.
You need to investigate from the diagnostics rather than just from the circumstances
The event logs show that you have system issues. Try to repair the windows installation and eliminate all BSODs first. The underlying issues may give rise to varying symptoms and need to be eliminated first
Your first evidence showed Plex Media Server stopped with this being the last logged activity

My recommendation is that you get these resolved first and you could search the web for these crashes or go to the windows forums I mentioned earlier
I think you may be on to something and it may be a cooling issue. I ran SpeedFan and started plex and the CPU temp shot up to around 70C (It’s an AMD processor) and kept rising before it crashed. I’m going to give the old HTPC a thorough cleaning and I’ve ordered a new hardcore CPU fan and heatsink. I should know what the deal is by this weekend and I’ll check back in. Thanks for all the help so far.
I have the same symptom, though I haven’t diagnosed it. After a day or more of Plex Media Server running, my PC becomes unresponsive (no keyboard nor mouse activity), and the screen is black. My only recourse is a hard reboot.
Here is my log from when I think my PC locked up, if it helps.
