I glowingly endorse it to everyone, but in the last few weeks, we got a disastrous mobile app update, Xbox audio was broken, webOS was down a few times, a horrible update was pushed to webOS, and now this. Not sure what changes have happened at the company end to prompt the recent mess but would really appreciate someone at least acknowledging this issue.
I’m in the same spot at the moment. Love Plex and have been a monthly subscriber for years now. Recently questioning their choices. When they implemented ExoPlayer as default for Android, it caused playback of any video of any format with aspect ratio 16:9 to be compressed to 4:3. It also resulted in horrible frame-rate. I solved both by using the device provided media player (1st gen Pixel). The UI update to the app makes it more difficult to navigate. More taps to get where you want. It now takes me 3 taps to list all my movies instead of 1. Plex Media Server just throws a general transcoder error with absolutely no detail. I’ve dug through all the logs. This didn’t happen three days ago. And now today, any time I press play on any file, it stops after 30 seconds with an error. I have browsed around and everyone says downgrade to 1.12.3. A Team member here says it’s helpful to provide logs. Well, my logs won’t do sh*t for you buddy. They all say unknown reason for any file type (mp3, mp4, mkv, avi.)
Going to try the downgrade suggestion and see where that gets me.

I think this coincides with when the most recent issues started popping up, and also it seems like everyone who has been having these issues recently uses Windows 10 for the PMS.

To start with would need some server logs. After the initial investigation, it may become necessary to ask for a short clip of the media file that also produces the error
Ensure you are running on the latest release

Got the error just this week. Already had re-installed my computer and running the lastest Plex.

very frequent. It happened with all my TV-series. I could restart the serie-episode, but after a while it crashed again.
Yesterday i updated to the latest PlexPass upgrade available 1.13.4.5251 , At first it ran fine, today it crashed the Plex totally, so Plex even exited.
After restarting Plex, i could watch the episode without a glitch.
The mediafile is a MKV 1080p DD 5.1

Hello sa2000, I think we are in the same boat here. Around Tuesday of last week, I started to get that exact same error as aadnleuw as well. It happened across Android, my LG webOS, PS4, Xbox One X, and the Plex Media Player on the PMS PC as well. Funnily enough, one of my users has been able to stream on Roku without encountering this error.
For the rest of my users/me, Plex is basically useless. It crashes frequently across all my media. Restarting my computer seems to stabilize it for a bit, but it seems to keep coming back. Never ever had issues with transcoding or networking, which leads me to believe something around Tuesday (like the Windows Updates) caused the issue. If you see, most people started posting around that time.

Thank you for the info. That does change things. If we are not getting these specific errors in 1.13.4.5251 then i will abort my referral of this to the devs.

Just started getting this error yesterday. Tried everything mentioned so far with no luck
Could you please see if the latest beta 1.13.4.5251 makes a difference, There was mention earlier that it did

PS: Are you running Plex Media Server.exe as a scheduled task / service?
Using the cjmurph’s packaged service wrapper would stop these repeated log system tray related log warnings

Just like most other, I didn’t have this issue until yesterday (I’m pretty sure I’ve been on 1.13.2.5154 for a while now so it’s not the update alone). Since them I getting it very consistently.
I can provide logs if necessary.
I started getting this error yesterday as well. I checked and I had an update thinking that it might solve the problem but it is still there.
Server Version: 1.13.2.5154
Just jumping in to tell, that I am getting this as well, so definitely still an annoying bug that needs to be solved - same version as above

I am using it as a service. I think I already downloaded the linked service. I upgraded, so just needed to restart to make those errors go away.
I redacted a bunch of stuff in this debug log that I felt was sensitive. This is on the latest 1.13.4.5251, so I think it is different from what was happening before.

Thanks for the log. Would always prefer all logs (you can see from the post here how the other log files showed an issue with 127.0.0.1 requests ! SOLUTION: Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error - #57 by sa2000

I just started having this exact issue as well today (after it working perfectly all morning) on the last version using the Plex app for my PS4. Tried updating to the latest beta 1.13.4.5251 and restarting and problem still occurs with any file. I’ve used plex flawlessly for years now until this. Here are the logs.
