I am running a plex server on win10. For the last few days my video streaming keeps crashing. It doesn’t seem to matter if i am watching a program on my android, web browser or roku device (TV). I keep receiving the following error messages:
Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.
or
Error: Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry.
I have tried to read some of the forums, but cannot figure out how to fix this error. It seems to be since the last upgrade, although not certain that has anything to do with it.
It does involve rolling back a security update on Windows, so plenty of warnings and the such. Hopefully the team comes up with a solution since it seems like it is impacting a decent amount of people now.
Thanks for the information. I tried your suggestion but my system wouldn’t let me restore back to July 10th for some reason.
I tried this instead: I went into Control Panel, Programs & Features, View installed updates (left side menu), and just deleted the one update you mentioned (KB4338819).
I then restarted my PC and viola! It worked in resolving the issue for me as well. Thanks for the information!
Please note that this was a security update. Windows has pushed a new update that fixed the culprit update, so a better solution might be to reinstall this update as well as the latest one (KB4345421). That fixed it for me as well
