Windows Plexamp player not listening to "Play" "Back" "Forward" keys on keyboard

I noticed that Plexamp (and partly also the player included in the Plex application, and the Plex Media Player application) on Windows do not listen to the keyboard keys “Play” “Back” “Forward”.
These keys work with all other players I have on my PC (like Groove Music and VLC media player), but not with Plexamp.
Does anybody else experience this same problem?

Are you referring to actual media control keys on your keyboard? Those seem to be working just fine for me… which version of Plexamp do you have installed on your system (current version is 3.4.7).

If this is about different/regular keys you might be able to set your own shortcuts in the settings of the desktop version of Plexamp: Settings > Advanced > Global Keyboard Shortcuts

Thanks for answering.
Yes I am referring to the control keys on my keyboard (I have a wireless Logitech Craft).

I wasn’t aware of these setting, my bad.
However, I tried to use them, but I am not able to record in Plexamp the control keys on my keyboard.

Probably it’s due to the fact that the control keys on my keyboard are on the F1 to F12 keys, but there’s an option to disable them and use the same keys as standard function (F1 to F12 keys). When I do so, I am able to map them.
Very strange…

Just following up on this.
It has become quite frustrating because the actual media control keys on my keyboard are not working with Plexamp.
I had to deactivate the media control keys and use them as normal keys (F8, F9, F10, and so on) and record them accordingly in the Plexamp app… however, “volume up” is not a “regular” key on the keyboard, but it is meant to be only a media control key, as you can see:

Instead of using keyboard shortcuts and having to record them in the app settings, why not having the app use the settings and keys that Windows already uses for media control (my keyboard media control keys work perfectly with all other apps, such as VLC, Groove music, Tidal app, Tidal web app, etc.)… or maybe one could choose to either use the regular Windows settings or record them in the app…
Just a suggestion.

The keyboard shortcut option is a workaround if your system doesn’t support the actual media control keys. All I can tell is it’s working fine with those on macOS; I currently don’t have a Windows setup at hand to verify… from what I’ve seen in other posts it should already be working.

The only hiccups I’ve seen so far (independent from Plexamp) are related to different apps competing over the control of those media keys.

I am trying to solve this issue.
It could well be an issue of the “default” app/player on Windows 10, as explained here: How to Fix Media Keys Not Working on Windows 10 - Appuals.com
Now, I am trying to set Plexamp as default player on Windows, but I need to know where the .exe file is located on the PC… anyone can help?

No, unlikely.

Normally, the last app to get opened will be registered for the media keys.
However, some mediaplayers use resident helper apps which are perpetually registering the media keys for their master app.
AFAIR the Spotify app did this for a while. I’m not sure if it still does.

That doesn’t make sense, because Plexamp cannot play any local audio file.

Thanks for the input.
I’m really at a loss here, as I do not understand why it does not register Plexamp then…

Anyways, for the time being, I resorted to disable the media hotkeys and use them as regular standard function F8, F9, and so on… and then register the same keys in Plexamp (except of course “volume up”, for which I had to use another key combination…)

I hope this gets fixed or someone comes up with a way to solve the issue.
