Windows PMS - PlexScriptHost.exe - Use Python.exe replacement?

Though I’ve always known that Plex heavily relies on python for it’s various tools and scripts, while tinkering today, I realized with at least 98% certainty that Plex (as of this posting with PMS 4.11.4666) on Windows’ plexscripthost.exe is just a renamed python.exe version 2.7.12 32bit executable.

What that realization, I’d like some of the more advanced Plex users, or even Plex developers and employees if you want to weigh in, on reasons why I shouldn’t, or couldn’t, update my plexscripthost.exe file, along with it’s associated standard python install packages (DLLs folder/Exts folder), to the most up to date Python 2.7.14.

Reasons why from my view, in order from most to least importance to me.

  1. Security. I like to use the latest version of applications. Per change log, Python 2.7.14 includes security fixes. Perhaps some are obscure, but they are there just the same. Though I’m a mid to advanced level Windows OS tech, I lack security training in any “official” sense. With opening ports to the internet for Plex and a few other tools I use, I like and even I know one of the security mantra’s is “Keep apps up to date”

  2. Stability - See change logs in #1 - Fixes/updates to stuff.

  3. I’m a PC geek tech who learns by doing and tinkering. When I have time, I enjoy ‘silly’ projects like this.

  4. Why not? No. Serious question.
