Windows specific instructions for creating and installing the SSL cert

Your certfile is named incorrectly. It looks to me like a missing carriage return. In settings.cfg you have

…/trailers.pemport_ssl = 443

It should be

…/trailers.pem

port_ssl =443

thanks for the reaction.

i installed the certificat and its now trusted

but still got the (#$%^^&*&^^%$)  "value connot be null. Parameter name: cert"   its driving me crazy

i followed the intructions exactly but still getting it, i dont know what could be wrong or what i''m doing wrong.

I am having exactly the same issue :(. I have followed the instructions several times, I've installed it into Trusted Roots (although I'm not sure why that should make a difference), I've filled in name, identifier and company name, I still get the 'Value cannot be null' error message.

DId you ever resolve it?

(My first post here so I'd better add "Hi" :) )

Edit: I've resolved it :). The problem was that I had never turned on the ATV and allowed it to run through the initial set-up process. Once that was complete the certificate installed with no issue.

Kevin

Everytime I put port_ssl =443 on its own line it doesnt show up when I start connect and what makes no snse no matter how many times I delete it I still keep getting port+ssl=443 twice showen bellow

certfile = C:/users/Murdoch/Desktop/plex1PlexConnect-master/assets/certificates/trailers.pem port_ssl = 443
port_ssl = 443

You don’t want it in there twice. Just once on its own line.

yes I understand that but it keeps adding 2.

This is what I get when I move the port_ssl =443  on a new line which is what I think you asked me to do.

Now your log states that Plexconnect cannot find your trailers.pem file. So I would check your certfile path. Actually, I would change the certfile path in settings.cfg to the default “certfile = ./assets/certificates/trailers.pem”, make sure the file is in the certificates folder and restart. Plexconnect not only checks for the certfile path but also makes it an absolute path automatically. You shouldn’t need to manually type in an absolute path anymore.

Well now i`m just pissed off.  I thought I would start from scratch and do this all over again.  When I download the new PLexconnect I only have a few files now and my plexconnect is only a py now and I cant even start up plex connect cause there is nothing to open up that will take me to a cmd window.

murderdoch,

It appears to me you have an issue in your settings file.

Currently you have this;

C:\users\Murdoch\Desktop\plex1\PlexConnect-master\assets\certificates railers.pemport_ssl = 443

But port_ssl = 443 is not part of this line, and infact you have it on the next line as well.

All those other files are created after you run Plexconnect the first time.

ok thats fine.  how do i start it up with only the py files?

It looks like your foke association has changed to notepad. You have a couple of options;

Open python and the drag the plexconnect.py script into the python command window (will not fix the association)

Change the file association back so python starts when a py file is double clicked.

Run

pathtopython\python.exe pathtoplexconnect\plexconnect.exe

(Also will not fix association)

Possibly open with will have python as an option and if this is the case then you can tick the always open with option.

Well it worked in notepad before all of this.  What is Foke association?  Dragging plexconnect.py in to python gives me the error SyntaxError: invalid syntax.

Foke was iPhone typo for file.

Notepad would never run the py file, just open it for editing

 i am stuck at the step where i am supposed to click on both panes and install.. my problem is that the config utility does not list/recognize my atv in devices in the right pane for some reason. yet my itunes recognizes my atv3!

anyone know why this is?

god i have apple!

Thanks Sam

All went perfectly once I killed Teamviewer which was hogging port 80

Cheers

Matt

oh yea yea I know that.  Now is there a reason with my plexconnect.py isnt there?

Murderdoch,

The screen print you posted shows plexconnect.py, windows is just hiding known extensions.

ok so this is another person who is having a similair problem as me I am missing half the files.  There is my screen below with what I have and the error that comes with moving plexconnect into pthyon command line.  I have watched videos and read several different forums and still get the same thing they open up plexconnect and everything is there and all I can do is edit my settings.

I am trying to get the plexconnect cmd box thingy so I can set up everything.

The pyc files are created on first run of plexconnect.

Thats fine.  idk how many times I have to say it I can't open anything if you looked at the second pic you should see plexconnect.py script into the python command window it doesnt work I keep getting an error, pathtopython\python.exe pathtoplexconnect\plexconnect.exe didn't work. running cd PlexConnect-XML_templates doesnt work ether do all the other commands.  The only plexconnect I can click is the one using notepad and that does nothing.
