Windows taskbar won't hide in fullscreen mode

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2852
Player Version#: 1.11.0

When switched to full screen mode in Plex for Windows app, Windows taskbar won’t disappear and will stay on top of the player. I’ve tried PMP in desktop mode and there are no problems but then the annoying pop will keep telling me “Plex for Windows” is the future app to be used.

I’ve tried searching everywhere to no avail. However there’s an “Keep Plex on top of Windows” which resolved the problem but not sure if this was supposed to be set as it wasn’t set by default. Is this a bug? What’s going on? Reinstalling display drivers didn’t help either.

Try toggling F11 or Alt+Enter during playback.

The issue isn’t that it doesn’t go in full screen mode. It DOES go in full screen mode but task bar will still stay on top. I’ve tried shortcurts, same problem. This doesn’t happen with PMP or other apps so I know it’s an issue with the Plex app.

Please see the image attached:

Have you tried it? I know the behaviour from earlier versions. Toggling full screen back and forth usually fixed it for me.

As I’ve also noted above, shortcuts unfortunately don’t resolve the problem. The behavior is the same as clicking full screen icon. Uninstalling/reinstalling the app doesn’t help either.

Have you tried to nix the configuration folder? It won’t be removed upon uninstalling.
Shut down the app.
then empty out the folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Plex

Careful! Do not touch the folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server or you will lose all your server libraries!

As you mentioned you’ve seen this in older apps but not the newer versions, this gave me an idea. I’ve set compatibility setting for the app and “Override high DPI scaling behavior” and set it to “system”. I’ve relaunched the app and boom fullscreen working again.

So I had previously set a custom scaling factor for my TV, so I’ve just changed it back to one of preset % values and I’ve disabled compatibility mode. The fullscreen was working again.

So it seems like a bug if custom scaling factor is being used, taskbar may stay on top. Cheers!

Edit: Note that I’m noticing this could be some issue with Windows as well. With custom scaling set, auto hide taskbar setting will still leave top row pixels of task bar visible but the issue is gone again with preset scaling values. Weirdly, Netflix seems ok in either custom or preset scaling.

OttoKerner, another issue I’m having is there is no background style option on any of the desktop apps. I do see background media art is loading fine but it’s completely blurred. I can’t find setting to switch to “dim” background like Web and PMP TV mode settings.

Is desktop mode always using extremely blurred versions?

Thanks much @OttoKerner, this resolves all of my problems.

Replying to the original question, I figured out what the problem is.

So I was using a custom scaling of 115% and then tried setting it to the preset of 125%, and that did work, but the UI elements were too large for my taste.

I also tried out using 120% custom scaling and that also worked, and so did 116%. As it turns out, the plex app can’t handle odd custom scaling percentages.

Btw I have 2 monitors connected and this issue only happened on the second monitor
