I've taken the plunge and bought a RPi2 and installed Rasplex 6. Early days yet, but so far I love it - many thanks to everyone who has helped to produce it.
Anyway the only drawback to the RPi2 compared to my Roku 3 is that I don't have the wireless headphones facility. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could implement this?
I've thought about a USB sound card; or even Bluetooth; I've also wondered if it might be possible to use the Roku 3 remote (I think the wireless sound on the Roku 3 is done via wi-fi direct). It's probably relatively easy to get sound out through headphones, but the difficult part of the equation (as far as I can see) is to automate the process - ie on the Roku remote, all I have to do Is plug in the headphones and the sound automatically switches to the headphones.
Any clues to point me in the right direction would be gratefully received. I'm quite happy to test things out and report back on my findings.

Thank you for the prompt reply Ned. Sadly my devices plug into a Panasonic Home Theatre box and that doesn't have a headphone socket (otherwise it would be relatively easy).
Is there a reason a Bluetooth transmitter like this couldn't be plugged directly into the RPi?
Yes, the analogue audio out on the Raspberry Pi B+ and B2 is line out only, you could possibly plug a headphone amp into the pi and then the Bluetooth transmitter into that, again, I haven't tried this but it should work.
Thank you again Ned. I'm sure I'm going to display my ignorance here - you say the analogue output on the Pi is 'line out only'. The Bluetooth transmitter that you pointed me to is designed to plug into a number of different devices - PC, TV, ipod etc. Aren't these line out only - or is there something different?

As far as I know it will only plug into the headphone output of PC, TV, iPod, etc, not the line out, however, when I get time I'll check it.
Thank you Ned - I look forward to hearing how you get on.
Just had another thought (as I went out for my lunchtime walk). Is it possible to plug headphones into my Android phone and listen to the audio on that, whilst watching the picture on my TV with the sound muted - I suspect it's not possible, but I can't check at the moment because I'm at work.

Not possible, sorry, no way for either Plex client to inter operate.

Have tried my Bluetooth Transmitter (not exactly the same as the one in the link, but I'm sure they all work the same, no manufacturer markings on mine) with my Bluetooth headphones. The transmitter is plugged directly into the analogue port of the RPi2, Analogue is selected in Audio Output and ..........
It works!!
Good news is that in the next release Dual Audio output is supported so you can leave HDMI and Analogue selected in Audio Output and you won't have to switch between HDMI and Analogue in future, just turn your headphones on or off as required, if headphones off sound from TV (or receiver), if headphones on just turn down the TV (or receiver) volume or switch to another source.
I'm now using this to listen to music without disturbing anybody else and TV can be on any other source as I'm controlling Rasplex with my iPad/iPhone. Brilliant.
I know that sound is a subjective thing, but I've just got myself one of those Bluetooth transmitters and the sound is truly dreadful. To be more exact, when the sound is constant, what I hear over the headphones is quite acceptable, but when there is a transition from noise to silence and vice versa, there is a sort of whooshing sound comes over the headphones - a bit like being by the sea side but without the sand between your toes. Now, I'm not sure if I've just got myself a dud transmitter, or if this is something that is common to them all.
As a test, if I listen to my Samsung S5 using its bluetooth link to my bluetooth headphones, the sound is perfectly adequate.
As I say, sound is a subjective thing, but what's your opinion on the transmitter you bought?

Thank you once more - I'm really looking forward to the next release.
I've decided that my Bluetooth transmitter must be defective, so I've ordered a different model - not the one that you've linked to - perhaps that's my problem - I've tended to go for the ones that cost most on Amazon (about twice as much as your one). Anyway, we'll see tomorrow how the replacement works when it arrives tomorrow.
I don't suppose there's any prospect of getting a USB Bluetooth implementation to work any time (any release) soon - it seems much 'cleaner' implementation than an external box.
Anyway - mustn't keep you from your work on the new release - see - I've managed to avoid asking any questions as to when it's coming!
