Wireless issues

Hi guys,

I had a problem with the all videos even standard def stuttering and just stopped playing. Following some advice I updated to the latest version 9.9.17 and tried a little over clocking but had the same issue. I then tried a wired connection as everything plays perfectly.

Using wifi also flooded my network rendering every device useless and not able to even browse the web (wired connection everything works fine)

Is there any tweaks/settings I can look at with the wireless setup as this is they way I want to have my final setup. One so files play and 2 it doesn't flood the network.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers!

I'm upgraded to 9.9.18 and still have the same issue

I've had challenges with speed when sending video over wireless on several systems, including Rasplex. Distance between the router and the receiving computer is a factor, but it is not the only factor.

Radio signals are attenuated by walls. They are also reflected by everything in their vicinity: the reflections can be in phase, and reinforce the signal strength, or they can be out of phase, and reduce the strength. This is particularly true of the high frequencies used by routers.

A few years ago, one of my friends was trying a wireless link between his computer, and his daughter's printer, down the hall. At first, it didn't work, but when he moved the printer just a few inches, it started working. If we could see the signals, I suspect we'd be amazed at what we saw.

You might try moving the Pi or the router a little bit at a time, and see if you find a spot where things work better.

Hi @santiago79830,

Thanks for your reply, however unfortunately your advice isn't going to help in this case :( I have set up many networks and this is not a wireless router/connection issue. When the pi connects to my router wirelessly it floods the network, rendering all devices on the network useless. My connection on all wireless devices goes from 14mbs to 0.1mbs, grinding everything to a halt. Using plex wirelessly on my iPhone and Macbook Air right next to the Pi (Pi off the network) everything works fine. I can even have iPhone and Macbook Pro all connecting to the plex server on my iMac simultaneously over wireless playing HD content.

The Pi works fine on a wired connection, the moment I connect wirelessly is floods and crashes the network. There are reports of people networks being flooded.

Can anyone help with this? The final part left to get my pi fully functional with RasPlex

Does it work watching videos over Plex on your laptop?

14Mbit/s is not very much. It looks like your router is too far away or too slow.

I had to try two wireless usb sticks. The "noname" 300 Mbit/s stick did not work for me, even tho i got full signal strenght. The Netgear N300 Mini works for me.

You could also look into powerlan. Using your electrical wires for a Lan connection. (Did not work for me).

If you feel that your device is slowed down due to USB useage from the Wifi stick you could try a Wlan bridge.
