I wanted to see how managed users work, so I created a “Test User” and gave that user a pin. Tried it for about 10 minutes. Then deleted the “Test User,” thinking that would restore everything back to the way it was when I had no managed users. But now, even with no other users (that is, my account is the only user), whenever I log in via the web interface, it takes me immediately to the Switch Users screen and demands that I enter a pin.
How do I get back to just logging in with my username and password?
How do I get Plex to stop asking for it? Plex didn’t ask for it ever until I created the “Test User.” Logically, deleting the “Test User” should have put me back in the original state; but it didn’t.
I am able to log in using the pin I created, but i am concerned that this will complicate access to my plex server from other apps, like the Amazon FireTV, Alexa skill for the Echo, etc. Plus, it is just a purposeless inconvenience to have to enter the pin each time. I never used to have to do that and don’t want to have to do it now.
Read the link i posted follow the directions and remove the PIN if you don’t want a PIN
Your PIN has nothing to do with other accounts you may or may not have anymore. when you add a managed user for the first time it suggest you add a pin to YOUR account so other users cannot get at admin settings. this PIN is not removed just because you remove the other users.
If you have a pin it will ask for pin. I don’t know which app you are using but if you want to skip pin and go to whomever was last user then go to setting of the player and check the auto sign in setting for that app. this will only affect that app.
Removing the pin did the trick. Thanks. I was confused by the asymmetry:
Start State: no managed users and no pin required for the main account
After creating a “Test User” managed user, pins required for everyone
After deleting “Test User”, pin still required for main account (though everything was otherwise restored back to the start state, and I expected the pin requirement to go away when the “Test User” account went away).
I see now that creating the managed account added the pin requirement and deleting the managed account does not remove the pin requirement but I can remove the pin manually to get back to my starting state.
