With Tidal Connect just released, will there be a Plex Connect?

We all know Spotify Connect is great at sending the music to the amp by-passing the phone or other control device.

Now, Tidal Connect is available on some devices. (Which is great, as the quality difference for Tidal is significant).

Plex Amp is fantastic if you are listening directly to the device.
Where it is not fantastic is having to use lossy wireless services to send to the various amps and speakers around the house.

If there was a Plex Connect. This would be solved.

Plex is obviously tight with Tidal. Hopefully we can see this rolled out as a feature.

A feature like Spotify Connect / Samsung Multiroom speakers directly

Plexamp doesn’t use “lossy wireless services”.
If there is a Plex client, which can be controlled per Plex Companion, it will do this:

  • instruct the client which play queue to play
  • the controlled client will connect to the plex server on its own and stream the file
  • the Plexamp instance will only receive some status updates, but is otherwise completely out of the data flow
  • whether the playback´is lossless or lossy is completely dependent on the compatibility and connectivity of the controlled Plex client

I am not sure I explained myself clearly…

If I am playing a FLAC file from my NAS server selected by my iphone and sending it to a Yamaha amp for example, the only option is to use Airplay.
(And Airplay is not that great).

What would be great, is to have a direct connect feature. The same as Spotify Connect and now Tidal Connect.
That way, the audio goes straight to the amplifier.
The current way, it is going through the phone, and all the phone notifications and so on are broadcast out to the amp as well. Which is not ideal.

The Spotify Connect way is better.

It would be a huge feature improvement to have a Plex Connect option.

Hi,
You can use a upnp control point app like Bubbleupnp to perform this. This works great for me on android devices. Not sure the best app for iOS. Try Myaudiostream or other recommended upnp app.

That’s sound like a good idea, however if you love using Plexamp, or the plex app the. a “Tidal Connect” like feature in Plexamp would be absolutely outstanding! I love to use Plexamp but disappointed by only being able to use airplay to play to my higher end equipment!
