Wish to Control Headless Plexamp with another Device

Any word on when you will be able to use a phone or iPad to play tidal content on plexamp. It’s really been sometime here and still cannot use plexamp fully or tidal for that matter. It’s past anything reasonable timewise. You are partnered with tidal, so it doesn’t seem like a license issue. I can do this easily with tidal and my squeeze server + orange squeeze on the phone. Though I think the plexamp sounds better and would really like to be a Plex only guy. Plus how about some form of Plex mix again or at least a autoque based on a single track selection. Again something easily accomplished with the Logitech media server system.

First, Plexamp is a music player that works on Windows, macOS, and Linux; there is no Plexamp for iOS.

Plexamp running on any of those platforms should work with Tidal already.

The Plex app for iOS also integrates with Tidal.

If you’re having issues using Plexamp, please post which OS you have it installed on and we’ll get your thread moved to the right forum section.

If you’re having issues using Plex+Tidal on an iOS device, that’s something else entirely.

You have totally and completely misunderstood me. I wish to use the phone or ipad to control the playback on the plexamp running on linux. I cannot do so, as plex says, that the content is not available to connect to remote player. I can play the content directly from plexamp or android or ios. I want to run plexamp as a headless player and control it from another device. Is this more clear. BTW this issue has been discussed in the past and I feel that plex has had adequate time to fix this. You have not.

Ah, I did not understand that at all from your original post.

I’ll move your post over to the Plex Labs section of the forum.

I’m also very interested in this functionality and I’ve tested it with PlexAmp installed on both Windows and Linux systems as my endpoint and the Android app as my remote with some interesting results:

When selecting the “Tidal” library and attempting to play tracks while connected to the Plex endpoint, I get the error message, “Unable to play content. This content playback is not currently supported when connected to a remote player. Would you like to disconnect and play on this device instead?”

When selecting my “Music” library and attempting to play a Track added to the library from Tidal, both the Android app and PlexAmp pause for a moment as if loading and eventually race through every track in the playlist one-by-one as if failed to load, and moved to the next track in succession until reaching the end of the playlist.

Interestingly, I made a playlist consisting of both local media and Tidal tracks. If I attempt to play a Tidal track from this playlist, it will display the “Unable to play content” message, however, if I play one of my local tracks, and then skip forward to a Tidal track, the Tidal track will play.

The Plex developers are aware this doesn’t work correctly. They aren’t in any hurry to fix it either. It hasn’t worked since day one and it’s been over a year and still nothing. The issue can’t be on tidal. My lms server will easily play content via a remote and mixes well with tidal stuff. I’d use plexamp more if it wasn’t so crippled. LMS is still far and away a better solution than Plex for music. It just works and works as expected. You need a truth table for Plex. Tidal integration just isn’t working well.
