Wondering if Plex will fit my needs

Hello, Plex customer service was of no help. I was going to pay for a subscription of Plex fits my needs but they seem to not be able to answer my questions.

I have a physical server at home that allows me to stream on all devices in the house along with stream from a smartphone or tablet while away on work trips. My server needs replaced so I am looking for an alternative.

So my wise ion is, is there a way I can get what I mentioned above with using Plex Media Server?

As far as cloud service goes I mostly use iCloud/Apple but have access to amazon cloud service along with Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive.

Please if anyone knows and can answer these questions let me know.

It’s a very old windows 2000 server and it’s starting to fail and I’m limited on hard drive space. Therefore I’m looking for something more cloud based. I was told Plex was but they done support this any longer from what I understand.

The exact brand of server I use I am not sure about. I know it runs windows 2000 I believe. I’m out of town to give specifics on the physical server

Don’t see why you could not rent a AWS “VM” (eg. Linux) and install Plex on it. The media-content could be store on some AWS storage blob or something.
Not sure about your budget, depending on the quantity of data/media and amount of hours/day the Plex would be operating it might be a lot cheaper to just keep the server running at home…
The “VM” on AWS might also need some decent spec depending if transcoding comes to play (often so unless you carefully prepare your media) so that’s gonna cost…

This Support page has a good description of what Plex does. It should answer most of your questions:

Plex attempted to get a cloud-based server working, but discontinued it because of unresolvable technical issues. Some users have apparently been able to get a locally-installed Plex server to stream media stored on Google Drive. As far as I know, Plex doesn’t officially support this, but you may get some clues on whether it could work with OneDrive or others from their experience:

Ok thanks. I’m not very tech savvy in this area. That’s why I’m looking for alternatives. I used to use Western Digitals’ mybook live. I light go back to that. Seems like it might be the best bet for me.
