On what devices and what versions of iOS are you experiencing this?

iPhone X - iOS 15.2

This is fixed if you go to library and scroll. Recommendation tab dont crash any longer if you do this. Odd

iOS 15.2 iPhone 8 Plus. I can’t play anything or browse through things at all. Total screen freeze after a few seconds. Was fine just a few days ago before Update.

Also getting this on iPad, it’s over to Netflix for tonight. Same 7.27 version. Scrolling inside a tv show a few times and it freezes. If I scroll less and just start playing a show, it starts, but then freezes after a second or so. Plex is dead baby.

Tried upgrading iOS to 15.2.1 to see if it helps. Nope. Restarted phone and rebooted NAS. Nope.

Previous poster described it well regarding time. It’s like I have ‘x’ seconds to find and click something to watch/listen to before my time runs out and it freezes.

Plex version 7.27 is unusable on my iPhone Xr, iOS 15.2.1. The previous version of the player worked great, but this version will freeze altogether after a couple of minutes, or the video will freeze while the audio continues. This occurs regardless of the source of the stream (either my Plex Media Server or Plex Live TV).

Please fix!

I’m a bit surprised there is no acknowledgement of this yet. Must be effecting lots of people?

I cannot even reproduce this on my iPhone
so it doesn’t seem to impact a wider audience but more of a specific target group.

It also appears that this thread is mixing two independent issues:

  • 3 users experiencing an app crash on the recommended hubs
  • 2 users experiencing freezes or other glitches during media playback

It happens in media playback as well if i ignore rec tab and play something immediately

If you see reddit, its posted there as well

Can you share the logs of the iOS client after reproducing both?

I actually do get an app crash, if I let the freeze sit for a bit.

I also don’t seem to be able to replicate this on my iPhone, even though it’s the same version of iOs and Plex.

I’ll see if I can attach some logs as suggested - it’s pretty consistently faulting to the point I gave up and watched Netflix instead.

OK I replicated the fault and produced some logs. I don’t think I want to paste them in a public forum though - probably has data specific to me. @tom80H I’ll attempt to send them directly to you - hope that’s OK.

Edit: Done.

Edit 2: Note that to get the logs after the freeze, I wait, the app force closes, then I can get back in and attach the logs. So the issue probably isn’t the last thing in the logs if you get my drift.

Very frustrating. Was about to go on a trip and I needed to download some movies. App crashes as soon as you try to download a movie. This update is useless.

I tried but the app is freezing before i can get it. I get to the “Share Debugging Data” but pressing it does nothing as the app is then frozen, i.e. I cannot navigate whatsoever. I have to close the app (swipe up) to get in again. Sorry.

Is see the alternative in your link? like from some backup. Would you like that?
Do you still want my PM Server log? I should be able to get that also.

Done - DM’d iTunes device logs that start with Plex to you Tom80H. Let me know if you need anything else.

Just noticed date stamp in name of logs doesn’t include today but i did trigger the crash big-time lots today. I don’t know why today’s logs wouldn’t have transferred during the sync

Plex app on iOS is unstable. It will launch, I can navigate the app for 30 seconds or so, then it freezes and the app quits. BTW, I can’t even get to playback.

If I let the app sit idle – it will lock up by itself inside of a minute, and only swiping up to quit the app ‘fixes’ it – then rinse and repeat, and lock-ups

My iPhone upgraded to iOS 15.2.1 earlier today.

Tom, I’m not certain this is a limited problem.

From what I’m reading, the commonality is iOS 15.2.1 and Plex 7.27 and maybe PMS 1.25.4.5426. In essence - there is a limited time the app appears to function following its launch. It eventually freezes.

Doesn’t matter if I navigate the UI, start media playback, or let the app ‘sit’ idle. It eventually freezes and ultimately quits.

PMS version is 1.25.4.5426-eb46d070e. Going to try and revert to 1.25.3.5409-f11334058 and test.
