Workarounds for app not starting/loading past splash screen (Version 1.3.1) - Fixed in 1.5.1

also please ask microsoft what the point of their lengthy certification process is when they don’t catch these issues.

1 user linked to Plex (me)
Yes auto-sign on
Yes kinect
Quick Launch

Symptoms first manifested after today’s Plex update.

Attempted all Plex recommended workarounds and found no progress past the initial loading screen.
(Including a hard reboot as some users have suggested above)

4 Users on the XBone, only one is linked to Plex
quick launch + auto sign-in to profile linked with Plex
Kinect

Tried everything above also, no go…

2 User (formerly 1)
No Kinect
Max Power Settings
Auto Sign in yes

Please fix I ditched Netflix for Plex, never had an issue on 360 now disenfranchised on the XBone :frowning:

As a workaround I turned on DLNA on my server and installed Media Player from the Microsoft Store, not at all a preferred interface but at least the sorting is intact, no descriptions etc. For example I am able to navigate to Videos>Tv Shows>Recently Added and see the same feed just without all the metadata plex provides. Will be using until the plex app is fixed.

On a closing note, something many have likely overlooked…

Devs - Thank you for waiting to release this update until after the long weekend!!!

No work arounds worked for me.

2 xbox users, 1 linked to plex
Auto sign-in is on
I have kinect, though I did disable it and reboot both the xbox and the server. Didn’t work either way.
Power setting is quick launch

Nothing is working. Latest update broke everything and Plex refuses to connect to the media server. It worked flawlessly for months before this… Very annoyed right now.

To get this resolved all I did was the following. Closed the Plex app, then deleted the XBox device on my plex server. Started the Xbox Plex client and it will load and ask you to link the app to your Plex account (pin) again. Did that and all is fine now.

Have you tried the solution in the thread for Plex unable to connect to media servers after the update? If the app is starting but unable to connect you should still be able to enter the settings menu (Hamburger button) and select settings → security and change never to allow on local network.

This needs to be fixed. I’m paying for a service that isn’t serving. I want a refund for the time it’s down.

You’re paying for a Plex pass which includes early access to an unfinished client that you are getting to test before it is released as a finished product. If you didn’t know that, I would recommend emailing PlexPass@plex.tv and explaining the situtation and asking for a refund there. The developers in this thread have no control over refunds nor anyway to credit you for downtime on a client that is still in early access development.

Nothing helps; already removed the xbox accounts and added them back
powering off; disconnecting kinect; powering on, doesn’t give a solution
can’t get in the menu (is empty)
removing xbox settings on server doesn’t help
removing xbox settings on plex account doesn’t help

Removed Plex App - Reinstalled and re-activated. Works fine now. Had to log out of profiles a couple times before it asked to re-activate.

I believe this is the correct solution, at one point I was able to get into the settings menu on my main gamertag that isnt working, and it showed the signed in user as ‘undefined’, doing these steps fixes it and now it shows my account as being logged in.

Same issue…the closing the app working fro me as well.

It seems to be the common setting is the Auto sign-in is on. Anyone have the issue if it’s turned off?

I updated the app and also can’t launch it properly.
I have an Xbox One with the newest Dashboard Preview, Kinect installed, Auto sign in “on” and only one user.

Same problem.

  • 1 user on Xbox and connected to plex
  • Auto sign-in is on
  • No kinect (broke a week after the warranty went out…)

I’ve also tried to remove the xbox one client from the plex server, but still not working.
