Working DLNA Profiles

mjarends:

Yeah, honestly, it's probably not worth supporting that Vizio...  Sometime in the future we could do IP address -> profile assignments, but it sounds like the Vizio will never be able to work automatically.

Managed to get my Sony BDP- S590 figured out. They pulled support for mp4 over the wire. Pulled out all the mp4/h264 profiles and it started transcoding m2t and worked great. This is a very rough first draft that just works. I'm sure there are more options and better quality to come.

xml attachment failed with "This Upload failed" on both basic and flash upload.
Here it is on my dropbox

Where are you placing this file and are you renaming it, or replacing another file for OS X?

Hi,

You can place the file in ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Profiles, as is. If the Profiles folder does not exist, you need to create it.

Have anyone a working Profile for mede8er X3D Gen?

Hi,

You can place the file in ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Profiles, as is. If the Profiles folder does not exist, you need to create it.

It wouldn't work from my Sony BDP-BX59 as far as playing my unsupported or corrupt files. However, I took the original Sony Blu-ray XML and through step wise deletion of lines. I discovered that deleting the DLNAMediaProfiles altogether allowed my Sony Blu-ray player to play all my video files and still allow for my channels.

Now....What do the DlnaMediaProfiles do?? (That deleting them would be detrimental?)

Hi,

for a Panasonic TX-L42DTW60 i renamed the generic Profile for Panasonic "Panasonic.xml" to "Panasonic.xml_disabled" and then the Profile "Panasonic Viera 3D TV.xml" was used and worked like a charme.

btw, disabling both Profiles works like a charme, too. the TV was served with the generic profile and everything worked.

I've got a profile working with Dish Hopper that actually does transcoding when needed.  The transcoding works but doesn't rewind--but it is better than nothing.

Paste the following into a file called "Hopper.xml" and save the file to: C:\Users\[User_name]\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Profiles.  You may need to create the Profiles subdirectory.  Note the file *has* to be called Hopper.xml.

The identification is pretty broad, the devs would probably want to narrow it down before distributing it.

EDIT: Switched to Jow350's transcoding as it is much less pixelated than the mpeg2video I was using.

Appreciate the info in this discussion about the DNLA profile with the Hopper. Though I can't get the process to work successfully.

I am currently using a new Dish Hopper DVR with Joey's connected to my network, along with a stand alone NAS device with all my movies (many in different formats mvk, avi, mp4, etc.). My PMS version 0.9.8.14.263-139ddbc installed on a Windows 7 OS.

Note: I have yet to upgrade to a LED, LCD, Smart, Flat Panel, etc TV. (still using a basic standard TV) Apex.  Looking to upgrade after I receive my income tax. = )

Before getting the Dish Hopper I was using my Roku to watch my movies with a PMS app.

At this time, to watch movies from myPMS I have to change the TV input to video 1 or video 2 with the TV remote, then use my Roku remote to navigate and play my media, then back to my Dish remote to control the volume (3 remotes in total). For some reason the Dish remote will not switch the TV input but yet it will control the volume on my tube.

It's a bit of a hassle but it would be nice to reduce the remotes down to only one.

I've created a new subfolder name "Profiles" and dumped the xml file name "Hopper.xml" within the Plex Media Server folder below....

C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Profiles

Am I missing something?

Thank you in advance!

Seem to be beating my head against a wall. Tried the profile above and I see it loaded and the log shows that it is selecting it based upon the user agent string. However, whenever I attempt to drill down to a folder that contains playable items, recently added, all movies etc. I see the message "No Events to Display". The log contains some further interesting information:

Dec 22, 2013 20:41:17:054 [13984] ERROR - Error parsing content.

Dec 22, 2013 20:41:17:054 [13984] ERROR - Unable to parse downloaded XML document: Error parsing file

Dec 22, 2013 20:41:17:055 [13984] ERROR - PlexContainer::GetStreamMetadata - unable to get directory

Any help appreciated. It would be really cool to be able to play Plex content on my Hopper...

BTW, I would be happy to provide a WireShark log if it would help anybody solve this. The Hopper does appear to be able to see playable items from other DLNA servers on my network.

Update: I discovered that the hopper will quite happily play the TV shows that I have on my Plex server but will not even display movies. I'm even more baffled than I was before but it gives me some hope that I can get the movies to work too...

markrad:

Make sure you can see and play the movies from Plex's web interface.  If you can, try adding this to the Hopper.xml file after :

Please let me know if that helps.  If it doesn't help, delete those lines back out.

catmanlives: Can you provide more detail about what goes wrong when you try it?

I tried the lines that you suggested and it did not make any difference. The hopper still reports the error "No Events to Display". I'm not sure I understand the purpose of those lines though. My reading suggested to me that the server would only return folders but at the hopper UI there was no discernable difference in the items returned.

However, I have made a little progress. It appears that the Hopper reports that error when there are a lot of items to display. If I try to view all movies it fails but if I select the movies by first letter the hopper can display the items in those folders. I am theorizing that this is because there are far fewer items which would also explain why I can see TV shows. I don't have very many. I have not yet managed to identify the specific number of items that causes the failure though.

BTW, I am able to play movies from my PMS via the Web interface, my Google TV box and my mobile phone but these, of course, are not using DLNA but proprietary Plex clients.

Working: Panasonic TX-L42DTW60

everythink except movies with embedded subtitles are working. Those get transcoded and suffer the "resume will play from beginning"-Problem.

attached my profile, simply put it into the user-profile-folder.

btw: on ubuntu (and i guess, all flavours of linux) i had to create the user-profile-directory by hand. Look for the Logs-directory, go one folder up and create a folder "Profiles". Put the xml into this folder, restart PMS.

Look in "Plex DLNA Server.log" for the Line

Dec 27, 2013 11:02:12 [0x7f45d0996740] DEBUG - Reading system DLNA client profiles
Dec 27, 2013 11:02:12 [0x7f45d0996740] DEBUG - Overriding Panasonic Viera 3D TV profile with user client profile

The last line indicates, that your user-profile is used and the systemprofile not. This is usefull for upgrading - new versions of PMS overwrites the system-profile, but not the user-profile.

Friedhelm

Hello. I'm looking for a working profile for an LG Smart TV of the 2012 variety, specifically the 42LS575T-ZD. Any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking about cobbling my own together, but I'm having difficulty finding information about the supported codecs except through trial and error. Is there a decent array of testing files somewhere? Many thanks.

I'm really lost here guys, forgive my ignorance here...

I have a sony BDV-E6100 blu-ray player/5.1 that supports DLNA.  However the transcode quality is awful with plex, but in PS3 Media Center the quality is HD-perfect.

How do I change the profile to play the quality better, similar to how the PS3 media center does?

Plex does detect my blu-ray player as a sony bluray player.

Not sure if there was an update to the Hopper that changed the info or not, but I added in the provided profile provided above to a Hopper.xml file.

Issue was, for whatever reason, the Hopper would show the thumbnail and duration for any videos I have that are in the .m4v extension, but wouldn't play them (it would act like it was going to but skip to the next video).

To get them to play I had to remove the mp4 tag like so

I assume I had to remove it from both... I didn't try just doing one or the other...

Just wanted to post in case anyone else is having this issue (there may be a better way of doing it but hell even this beats converting all the m4v's to mkv's using handbrake!)

Running plex on Ubuntu using version 0.9.8.18

The following profile works for the Pure Evoke Flow internet radio and will most likely work for other Pure products if you just change the identification substring:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Okay.. so mixing the Chromecast profile with the Hopper profile above seems to have worked for me... my .mp4 and .m4v's are playing now (before they would either look like they were loading and skip to the next, or play a second or two and skip to the next). Using just the Chromecast profile worked for the .mp4 and .m4v's I have, but suddenly the .avi's were showing as the blue box with the ? and the Hopper wouldn't even try to play them.  Here's my remix of the two that *appears* to be working fully for me...

This may need more tweaking, such as the section VideoCodec Name="*" may be useful somehow... but as I said so far with limited testing this seems to work for me

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

  -->
  -->

Is there anything in DLNA profiles that affects the browsing behavior of DLNA clients? Or do these profiles only affect actual media playback?

I.e. my TV is often unable to load the All Movies listing, because it seems to timeout. Can I speed up the loading process somehow?

Shrubbery - Many Thanks.

I have changed the ID strings and updated the bit rate limit from your profile in line with Pure's guidelines - and  it works with a PURE Sensia (Old Version)

      Now all I have to do is figure out how to limit the number of menu items / folders as the PURE Sensia  'prod' Interface is somewhat 'slow'

But nonetheless its a better sound than via the Now TV / Roku Box and an audio lead and marginally easier!

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Once again - Thanks to Shrubbery
