This is fine if all the music on the album is from a single artist, but I would like to know how to organise music if it comes from a compilation disk, for example ‘80’s Rock’ which might contain a dozen songs by different artists. I am assuming that Plex should be capable of playing all the songs in the library from a specific artist and all the songs on a specific requested album as well. I am not sure that the above format will permit both these options and I would welcome advice on how to organise a mixture of compilation albums and albums by a single artist.
A compilation album by a single artist is an album. Nothing special about it.
Or do you mean you want to see single songs by a certain artist which appear on sampler albums (Sampler = different artists) under the Album Artist category?

These links above have been very useful - by compilation album I meant one where lots of songs from different artists have been put together on one album - like the ‘Now Music’ series which run in the UK and feature a mix of popular songs from the last few months. Rather than a ‘Best of Artist name’ where it is just songs from a single artist. The information in your first link provided what appears to be the solution - at least from the effort I put in yesterday, I HOPE it proves to be the solution LOL. I’ve added the extra level of sorting it refers to and included the concept of Various Artists with the album name and then I am adjusting the file names to include the actual artist name then a space hyphen space and the actual song_name.MP3 fingers crossed that this works once I’ve done it to everything!
Yes, for this kind of album, the Various Artists approach is the only solution in Plex (unfortunately).
If you have a lot of these ‘Now Music’ samplers, you could create an Album Artist just for these albums, if you find this more convenient.
