Would it be possible to have a nas set up with plex server and have a client such as a chromecast receive video from it . However the nas might be not very powerful , but its set to format the media to the preferred format for the chromecast BEFORE video playback.
Yes it is.
You main issue with the NAS as you stated would be power for transcoding, other than that it should work fine.
Thanks for the replies, do you know what the passmark needed is to broadcast from a plex server when the files being broadcast are already in the client-side’s necessary format?
Check out this link
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201774043-What-kind-of-CPU-do-I-need-for-my-Server-
Generally its 2000 passmark for a 10 Mbps 1080p
2000 is for transcoding. If Media is optimized to a format which can be direct played, CPU utilization will be next to nothing.
^ that’s the info I was after thanks . I’m still flipping up if I want to build my own NAS or buy a cheaper but better looking/easier store bought NAS and do this . Cheers
