Would you lease a VPS for PLEX.

Hi Guys,

Wondering if any of you would be interested in leasing dedicated space on "Cloud" servers for your Plex Library on the cloud. I am thinking of putting a package together for the Plexpass members. I resell VPS and came across a lot of dedicated servers that are beefy enough for on the fly transcoding.

I am currently using my own dedicated box about 200 miles from home i have my unlimited storage through.

http://onlinestoragesolution.com/ (cheapest option and as far as i can tell the best of the cheap options.)

https://www.opendrive.com/ (unlimited but slow.. more expensive but still no crazy bitcasa prices.)

i use webdav to mount my storage.

use open vpn for extra security.

each home theater box for me and my family VPNs into the server.

server plays from my cloud storage.

These boxes have 5tb transfer/Month @ a minimum of 100mbps guaranteed.to the web.

anywhere from 1gb -8gb per vps

1/4 of total CPU (each server would contain 4 VPSs on ESX i think more then that might hurt performance for all other users.

i am not sure yet but will try to negotiate SSD storage for boot partitions.

Just feeling out the interest if its even worth buying the lot.

its not an easy thing to implement but awesome after you do.

Also if any of you have any suggestions  on how i can improve my setup or any tips please pass it on.

Regards,

Would you lease a VPS for PLEX?

Hello!

Was not sure to open a new thread or not after I found this one. I think it is related

I am a new on PMS but tried to built my own media server on VPS.
Think have reached a success and PMS is running. Built it using this manual:
https://www.lavavps.lt/login/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&id=107&language=english
Also mounted Google Drive via PlexDrive.

Everything works but still facing some stream problems…
Would like to get any advice to solve this case.

Actually I get different errors:

  1. CPU problem - not fast enough for transcoding.
  2. Bandwidth problem - not fast enough to stream above 2Mbps quality.

I have provided some test and:

  1. CPU is fast enough for transcoding. While on transcoding CPU usage is very low. It can not be a true.
  2. Upload and download speed is fast enough to handle much much higher quality. Even for download from Google Drive. But it is the same result if video being streamed from local storage (VPS).

What wrong I do on my case?
Thank you in advance for any help or advice…
