Would you like the ability to link a film and its soundtrack?

This may be as a track listing below the film, or even as a button next to ‘Play Trailer’ or similar. This could also be in reverse. This would be great for Musicals as well as Film Underscoring.

If the track is present, you can already select it.

Some apps let you do that before you play it, some make you do it while it’s playing, but if it’s in the file you can play it. If it’s not in the file you can put it in there outside of Plex and this, IMO, is something Plex doesn’t need to spend time better spent fixing what’s already broken and that list is HUGE.

Hi @JuiceWSA ,
Could you explain that in a bit more detail. Maybe there’s a similar feature that I’ve just missed.

If other Audio Tracks are present in the file they can be selected.
These particular tracks are:

  1. The main audio track
  2. A secondary stereo track
  3. A commentary track

This is the Plexweb interface, but other device apps either offer the same function in some way before playback, or while playback is underway, but separate audio tracks can be selected.

Ah… @JuiceWSA ,
I believe I may have not been particularly clear in my question. I meant like a Film’s Soundtrack. For example, the Music from a Movie such as Mamma Mia! or Hairspray. This is especially evident in Musicals, but even in Film Scoring. For example, when seeing the PrePlay for the latest Pirates of the Caribbean, we can easily switch to or listen to George Zanelli’s wonderful arrangements of Hans Zimmer’s infamous music.

Uh… yea… open up Plexweb while the Movie is playing on something else and start the soundtrack. Or put the Soundtrack’s CD in the CD Player. Easy. Self induced multi-tasking if you will. Taking you way back to the days (last weekend) when you put the Baseball game on the TV, turn the sound down, play music, do bong-hits and drink coffee. A great American Pass Time - almost like Baseball, but a bit different.

I recently discovered that sometimes the Score is offered as an alternate Audio Stream on some BluRays. I guess it’s nice in that if you’re really into the score there’s no distractions with dialog, explosions, etc. In that case if you rip that track off the disc along with the other tracks then, yes, it’s just an audio track that’s available.

You could, if you’re so inclined, use MKVToolNix and add the Soundtrack Music to a video file as another audio track - taking care to create a valid audio stream format (probably a good idea in this case). Won’t take too long and it would be another audio track that you could select.

Should Plex leap into action and make this a feature?
Maybe (in 200 years), when they’re all sat at their desks twiddling their thumbs after they’ve fixed everything that’s broken and are bored to tears.

Until then I not only vote No - I vote Hail No!
I just have one vote, but there it is.
Polls don’t do anything in particular. Neither do Feature Requests, but Plex keeps spinning that yarn so if you really want to be official about it - that’s the way. You’ll have to join the Plex Passers to make that official and good luck with it.
